OCR: GEOSTATIONARY ORBIT GEOSTATIONARY ORBIT describes the path of an artificial satellite at an altitude 36,000 km (22,400 miles) above the Earth's equator. At this altitude, objects orbit the Earth once in every 24 hours, the same time it takes the Earth to spin once on its axis. The object therefore always remains directly above a particular point on the equator.
