OCR: ECLIPSING ......................... . . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . BINARY STAR AN ECLIPSING BINARY star is a double star (two stars in orbit around each other) in which one star periodically passes in front of the other star and blocks out its light as seen from the Earth. As this happens, the star's apparent brightness falls. In the case of Algol, the first eclipsing binary star to be discovered, an eclipse occurs for 10 hours every 2.8 days.
