OCR: AIRLOCK AN AIRLOCK IS a small, sealed chamber in which the air pressure can be raised or lowered. Astronauts use the airlock on a spacecraft to transfer between the pressurized spacecraft and the airless environment of space. After entering the airlock the astronaut, wearing a spacesuit, seals it and lets the air out. The astronaut can then open the outer hatch and pass out into space.
