3DWorld Last Minute Windows Icon and Installation Information:
Special last-minute thanks to Alex Berkovsky for the 3DWorld Windows
icon, found in the file 3DWORLD.ICO! To install 3DWorld into
Windows 3.1:
1. Use the INSTALL program to copy the appropriate 3DWorld files to
the directory in which they are to reside.
2. Start up Windows.
3. From Program Manager, select File | New.
4. Select "Program Item", the default, and press "OK".
5. Enter the following options into the Program Item Properties window:
Description: 3DWorld
Command Line: d:\path\3DWORLD.EXE
Working Directory: d:\path
Shortcut Key: None
Where d: is the drive letter on which 3DWorld was installed, and path
is the directory in which it was stored. For example, d:\path may
be C:\GAMES\3DWORLD
6. When all of the options are set as above, click on "Change Icon". It
will tell you there are no icons available in the specified file.
Change the name of the file selected from C:\WINDOWS\PROGMAN.EXE to
d:\path\3DWORLD.EXE - see above for the meaning of d:\path.
The very cool 3DWorld icon will appear; if it doesn't, you've done
something wrong. Press "OK" to leave the Change Icon screen.
7. Now, back in the Program Item Properties group, click on "OK". You
will be back to Windows, and there will be a new icon in your display
titled "3DWorld". Double click, and away you go.
Note that 3DWorld plays slightly better when not using Windows. On a
486, Windows does not pose a problem, but on a lower-end computer, it
may be better to play 3DWorld directly from DOS. Have fun!
