What's New in ZIP'R For DOS Version 4.13
──> CGA Support In ZIF Editor
The ZIF Editor now has support for users on CGA screens. The
"bright" background colors have been removed and replaced with
more subdued colors. A few minor enhancements were added.
What's New in ZIP'R For DOS Version 4.12
──> Enhanced ZIF Editor
The ZIF Editor has undergone a major facelift! The layout and
overall appearance has changed significantly. Also, several
improvements have been made in the file open and delete routines
to accept fully qualified paths for files.
──> New Video Options
ZIP'R now allows users to change video preferences. The option now
exists to suppress the output from the compression and decompression
programs. Users can also specify whether screen writes are done
using BIOS or DIRECT, or ZIP'R can automatically detect which mode
to use.
What's New in ZIP'R For DOS Version 4.1
──> Changed ZIPR.INI File Format
The format of the ZIPR.INI file has changed slightly. Now, the
Registration Name field is preceded by the string "RegistrationName=",
and the Registration Number field is preceded by the string
"RegistrationNumber=". Users upgrading from a previous version must
enter the ZIF Editor and resave their registration name and number in
order for ZIP'R to work properly. If you do not do this, your copy of
ZIP'R will be executed as an UNREGISTERED copy.
──> Now Use ENTER Key In Place Of TAB Key In ZIF Editor
The ZIF Editor now supports the use of the ENTER key to move from one
field to another. In most places where the TAB key would normally be
used, the ENTER key can be used instead. (This new feature excludes
file and directory list boxes.)
What's New in ZIP'R For DOS Version 4.0
──> Completely Remodeled ZIF Editor
This version of ZIP'R contains version 2.0 of the ZIF Editor. This
version has been completely rewritten, and has undergone MAJOR layout
changes. New features include browse screens to find your programs
more quickly, enhanced mouse support, complete use of all standard
editing keys, and more!
──> New Style .ZIF Files
With the evolution of a new editor comes a new style of .ZIF files.
The new editor can read both new styles (4.0) and previous styles
(before 4.0). Old style files are automatically converted to the new
style when they are saved, eliminating the need to re-enter old
information.
──> Newly Designed Prelog Screen
The ZIP'R For DOS Version 4.0 Prelog Screen has been redesigned. Some
unnecessary information has been removed, and a new format has been
established that is more visually appealing.
──> Enhanced AlternateDIR Feature of ZIP'R!
ZIP'R now allows the executable program to be executed from more than
one level below the compressed file.
──> Speed Enhancements!
The deleted file scanning routine (used for the update option) now
deletes file and/or sub-directories all at once, instead of one at a
time. Other minor speed enhancements have been implemented.

──> Update Option Added
Added option that allows users to "update" the old compressed file
during the recompression process, rather than create a completely new
compressed file. This DRAMATICALLY increases the speed of the
recompression process. See the "Advanced Compression Options" section
of the file ZIPR.DOC.
──> Query Option Added
Added option that allows users to force ZIP'R to ask whether or not a
program should be compressed before the compression process actually
begins. This gives the user more control over the recompression
process, allowing them to decide "on-the-fly" if a program should be
compressed.
──> Added Support for Larger Cluster Sizes
The "Cluster Size" field in the ZIF Editor has been increased to allow
ZIP'R users to utilize larger cluster sizes. New available cluster
sizes are 16384 and 32768. This will allow the Accurate File Size
Calculation routine to be used on drives up to 2 Gigabytes.
──> Changed Name from ZIP'R to ZIP'R For DOS
To avoid potential confusion over future versions of ZIP'R, the name
has been changed to ZIP'R For DOS.
What's New in ZIP'R Version 3.1
──> AccurateFileSizeCalculation Speed Increase
Increased speed of calculating the accurate file size before beginning
the extraction process. New speed is approximately twice as fast as
before.
──> Time Stamp Now Indicates Version Number
ZIP'R users can now tell what version of ZIP'R they are using by
viewing the time stamp on the ZIP'R related files. The files
associated with ZIP'R Version 3.1 should have a time stamp of 03:10.
──> Retail Shareware Versions
STSI now has retail shareware copies of ZIP'R available for purchase
and resale by dealers. Interested dealers should read the file
VENDOR.DOC.
What's New in ZIP'R Version 3.0
──> ZIF Editor Version 1.0
ZIP'R users may now create ZIP'R Information Files (.ZIF Files) with
the new ZIF Editor. These .ZIF files contain the settings necessary
to execute specific programs through ZIP'R, and can be called directly
from the ZIP'R command line by typing "ZIPR PROGRAM.ZIF"
The ZIF Editor may also be used to edit .IN and .OUT files, as well as
the ZIP'R program defaults, which are normally stored in the ZIPR.INI
Page 2
file.
──> Now Register with Visa/Mastercard, American Express or Discover!
Users may now register ZIP'R via telephone, FAX, or The Bertha BBS
using a Visa/MC, American Express, or Discover credit card. Users
registering via telephone can receive a temporary registration number
that can be used to immediately register their copy of ZIP'R. (Please
see REGISTER.DOC for new pricing/packaging information.)
──> Compressed .EXE files to 1/5 of their original sizes.
The files ZIPR.EXE, ZIPRN.EXE, and ZIFEDIT.EXE have been compressed to
only consume 1/5 the space of their original size.
On my test systems, the ZIP'R files load faster using the new
compressed format.
