  30.                                    WHAT IS QCD???
  31.  
  32.           QCD stands for Quick Change Directory.  The purpose of this
  33.           program is to make changing the current drive and directory
  34.           faster and easier.

  37.                                       FEATURES
  38.  
  39.           1. The current directory can be changed by giving only part of
  40.           the full path name.  For example, if you have a directory named
  41.           C:\UTILITY\ARCHIVER\PKZIP, you can change to that directory by
  42.           entering the command: 'QCD PKZIP'.
  43.  
  44.           2. The current drive may be changed with the same command.  For
  45.           example, your current drive is C: and you wish to change to
  46.           D:\123.  This can be accomplished by entering the command:
  47.           'QCD D:\123', or simply: 'QCD 123'.
  48.  
  49.           3. An alias file may be set up for frequently used directories.
  50.           For example, you can add the following line to your ALIAS.QCD
  51.           file: DL=C:\QMODEM\DOWNLOAD.  You can now change to that
  52.           directory by simply entering the command: 'QCD DL'.

  69.                                       USING QCD
  70.  
  71.           The format for the QCD command is: 'QCD pathname [/R]'.  Where
  72.           pathname is the full pathname, partial pathname or alias you wish
  73.           to change to.  The '/R' switch creates the DIRTREE.QCD file.
  74.  
  75.           The DIRTREE.QCD file contains a list of every directory on every
  76.           drive (from C: to Z:, if available) in your system.  This file is
  77.           required for QCD to function.  You only need to use the '/R'
  78.           switch this first time you run QCD, or if you add directories,
  79.           delete directories, or change the directory tree.  This file is
  80.           created in the root directory of drive C:

  82.           When QCD executes, it first searches the alias file for an exact
  83.           match. If no matches exist or the alias file does not exist, the
  84.           program then searches the DIRTREE.QCD file and changes to the
  85.           first match it finds.  If it cannot find a match in the
  86.           DIRTREE.QCD file, the path and drive do not change.
  87.  
  88.           The alias file can be created with any ASCII text editor, such as
  89.           DOS 5.0/6.0's EDIT.  This file should be in the root directory of
  90.           drive C: and it should be named ALIAS.QCD. One line should be
  91.           entered for each alias and should be in the following format:
  92.           alias=drive:\path, (ex. PARADOX=E:\BORLAND\PARADOX).  No check is
  93.           made to ensure that the pathname is valid, if an invalid pathname
  94.           is given undesired results may occur.  The drive letter must be
  95.           specified or undesired results may occur.

  110.           QCD is not public domain or free software.  If you paid a
  111.           shareware distributor for this program, you paid for the service
  112.           of coping and distributing to you an evaluation disk and not for
  113.           the program itself.  You may evaluate QCD for a maximum of 30
  114.           days without charge, however if you find the program useful and
  115.           continue to use it beyond the 30 day evaluation period.  you must
  116.           send a registration payment to the author.  Registered users get

  158.           earlier,  there will be a charge for QCD v1.0 which will be
  159.           released 08/31/93.  The only way to get QCD v1.0 will be to

  162.               1. Send a VOLUNTARY donation of at least $2.00 to the above
  163.                  address by 08/31/93.  Then when v1.0 is released on 
  164.                  08/31/93 you can call The Particle Board at 1-(802)-985-4069
  165.                  and download v1.0 for FREE!  The envelope MUST be
  166.                  postmarked 08/31/93 or prior!

  168.               2. Or if you don't do this by 08/31/93, send $8.00 to the 
  169.                  above address.  After your payment is received you may    
  170.                  call The Particle Board at 1-(802)-985-4069 and download
  171.                  the latest release.  Allow 5 business days for the
  172.                  registration fee to arrive before calling.

  174.               3. Call The Particle Board and register online using your
  175.                  credit card.  This will grant you an immediate download.
