Welcome to BowlStat
===================
Here are a few short notes to assist you in using BowlStat.
First off, this version has been crippled due to a lack of
registrations (but not calls for support). Even crippled, BowlStat will
generate full printouts, however, the number of names printed for eack
category/award has been fixed.
Upon receiving your registration fee ($35), a key file will be sent
that will unlock this restriction. Current registered users can obtain the
key file for free, the usual $10 version upgrade fee will cover this.
YEARLY STATISTICS/CLUB SCORES
-----------------------------
If bowler or team yearly statictics and/or "CLUB" scores are to be
maintained, set the "Save Stats/CLUB to disk" and "Save Team Stats to
Disk" options in the Defaults EDITOR (General Defaults) to "Y".
MEMORY
------
The amount of memory required to store the bowler database can be
reduced by suppling the maximum number of bowlers the system will allow.
For example, to to set the maximum number of bowlers to 200, type BOWLSTAT
200 from the DOS command line. If no number is supplied the default of
891 (99 teams with 9 bowlers per team - BowlStat's maximum setting) will
be used. Each bowler record takes approx. 150 bytes of memory. Remember -
the larger the database, the longer certain operations will take.
Please note that the MEMORY and VIDEO options can be combined. For
example, BOWLSTAT 100 /M allocates memory for 100 bowlers and provides
support for monochrome video displays.
VIDEO
-----
To run BowlStat on a monochrone system, add the "/M" switch - ie.
BOWLSTAT /M from the DOS command line. This command can also be used on
color systems to display BowlStat in B/W.
LEAGUE LOADING
--------------
If the same league is to be used week after week, it can be
selected from the command line, bypassing BowlStat's normal startup
procedure. Add the following switch after the BowlStat command:
/F:<league name>
ex. BOWLSTAT 250 /M /F:MENSPRO
Menu Operation
==============
All menu items available in BowlStat are accessed through "smart
menus". To choose an item, move the highlight bar via the cursor or +/-
keys of the numeric keypad to the desired choice and press the "Enter" or
"Return" key. If a mouse is present, move the cursor to the desired menu
item and double click the left mouse button.
If the menu item is preceeded by a number, then it may be selected
by a pressing the corresponding number. In this case the "Enter" or
"Retrun" key is not required to complete the selection.
For example, to select "5) BOWLER - Delete" from the Main Menu,
either move the highlight via the cursor or +/- keys to the line "5)
BOWLER - DELETE" and press the "Enter"/"Return" key or press "5". Either
method selects the same menu item.
Function Keys
-------------
BowlStat makes use of function keys F1-F4 and F9-10 for the
following functions:
F1 - Help system pop-up window. (always active)
F2 - Bowler database pop-up window.
F3 - Team database pop-up window.
F4 - Database statistics pop-up window.
F9 - Printer pause.
F10 - Printer continue.
Function keys F2 - F4 are active at any time after reaching then
Main Menu and are disabled during print operations. Function keys F9-F10
are active only during a print operation.
Notes: The function keys cannot be "stacked" - only one function may be
active at any given moment.
Most prompts in BowlStat are worded so that any menu item that
alters a database (team or bowler) requires a "Y" (yes) response to
a confimation prompt. Therefore, the "Enter" or "Return" key alone
is considered as a NO entry and can be used in place of a "N" and
"Enter" or "Return" keystroke sequence. Also, to utilize the
numeric keypad, the "+" and "-" keys can be used to simulate "YES"
(+) and "NO" (-) replys.
To produce a hardcopy of the online help files for reference, type
MANUAL at the DOS command line.
The order of command line options is important. They should be
entered in the following order:
1) Memory Size
2) Monochrome video switch (/M)
3) League name to be loaded (/F:<league name>)
Failure to enter the options in this order may result in
unpredictable operation.
