TrakMenu v2.2
(C) Copyright 1991 Synchro-Graphix Software
All Rights Reserved.
User Information Documentation:
*** Installation ***
Copy TM.EXE and SEU.EXE to the directory where TrakBlasters TRAK.EXE
resides.
*** Instructions ***
How to get TrakMenu running?
from the C:> in the directory you just copied the above, type TM. The
TrakMenu will check if .MOD .NST and/or .ZIP files exist in the current
directory. Then it will check if TRAK.EXE and SEU.EXE exist. If
everything checks, the program will explode a window on the screen
about registration information, next the TrakMenu will appear and will
contain all .MOD and .ZIP files available to play. If there are no
song files in the current directory a message will appear displaying
'No Mods'.
NOTES: 1) NST information.
NST files are Tetra Compositor format. If there are NST files in the
directory, TrakMenu will prompt you for the conversion process from NST
to MOD, please answer with (Y)es or (N)o. The NST files will be
restored to their original format when you exit TrakMenu or change to
another directory.
2) NST's ZIPed.
NST files may be ZIPed in their .NST format the file will be converted
after the UNZIP process. If NST files are ZIPed you will not be
prompted to convert NST to MOD, the process is automated.
*** Command Line Options on Start Up. ***

I decided to remove it. If you would like a TEXT MODE version please
run the program and follow directions. I will gladly send it.

Added support for .MOD, .NST, and/or .ZIP in any directory.
PKUNZIP is not REQUIRED!!!!
_______
Added registration functions.
_______

_______
New information window! When you UNZIP a MOD you will be shown
complete specs for the MOD file and for the ZIP file.
_______
Improved speed and optimized the program to its fullest. If you
thought it was a fast program before, look out man it's going to leave
you in the dust!
*** ZIP information ***
TrakMenu v2.2 now supports .ZIPed MODs. You have the option to use
PKUNZIP from PKWARE or our own Special Extraction Utility v1.1 (SEU)
What happened to SEU v1.0??? Well it really took me some time getting
information on the .ZIP format. (If you interested at the end of this
file I have included some sources to find information about Compression
utilities.) My first SEU worked but thats about all it did. It was a
DOG (Slow, Slow, Slow). An example of just how slow it was. I took a
200K file. PKUNZIP Time: aprx. 4sec.
200K file. SEU v1.0 Time: aprx 36sec.
Ok so I won't win an award for it, who cares? I do! So back to the
drawing board finally I got what I wanted. Lets have another speed
test.
200K file. PKUNZIP Time: aprx. 4sec. (boy are they consistent)
200K file. SEU v1.1 Time: aprx. 9sec.
OK, OK, OK so I won't win an award this time either. But the program
performs flawless and what's 5 seconds among friends? Right :-)
The SEU v1.1 is currently compatible with PKZIP format v1.10. I
realize PKWARE is putting out a new version currently in the alpha
stages. When information about the new compression becomes available I
will update the SEU. One of the reasons I didn't combine the SEU into
TM.EXE is, it can be easily updated by copying the new SEU when it
comes out, over the old with total compatibility!
NOTE: .ZIP files can only contain 1 .MOD file with the same name.
ie: the ZIP file name is COOL.ZIP the ZIP contains only 1 MOD file
named COOL.MOD.
*** Utilities ***
MOD2ZIP.EXE is a utility that will convert .MODs or .NSTs to .ZIP.
PKZIP is required for this utility to work! Place MOD2ZIP in a Path on
your drive. I put it into my DOS directory.
SYNTAX: MOD2ZIP [file type]
file type = can be wild characters or a specific song file name.
ie convert all MODs to ZIPs. In your current directory.
type: MOD2ZIP and press <ENTER>
To convert only .MODs that begin with an S.
type: MOD2ZIP s*.mod
To convert .NST files that begin with an S.
type: MOD2ZIP s*.nst
Type MOD2ZIP /H for help at the DOS prompt.
*** Memory Requirements ***
I really spent a lot of time optimizing this program so that all .MOD
files will play in TrakBlaster. On my old versions of TrakMenu certain
.MODs are to large to play and a Memory Allocation Error will Occur.
You will definitely know when a MAE Occurs because TrakMenu will popup
over the TrakBlaster screen.
How to avoid MAE's. You have to free up as much memory as possible.
If you have DOS v5 you will have no problems playing any of these
MODs. I have 619K free for DOS v5. Following is sample of my
config.sys.
FILES=20
BUFFERS=20
STACKS=0,0
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS <--- Currently using v3.0 himem.sys
DOS=HIGH
DEVICE=C:\DOS\SIZZLE.SYS <--- This is a fast screen update prg.
DEVICE=C:\DOS\MOUSE.SYS
