  1. INTRODUCTION
  2. PMJPEG is a shareware image viewer with image processing and conversion
  3. capabilities for OS/2 2.x.  PMJPEG is a port of WinJPEG to OS/2 2.x.  It is
  4. a native 32-bit PM application.
  5.  
  6. PMJPEG v.1.4 has the following features:
  7.   - display JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, Windows BMP, or OS/2 BMP images
  8.   - export an image to JPEG, TIFF, Targa, GIF, PCX, Windows BMP, or OS/2 BMP
  9.   - capability of generating OS/2 desktop-background bitmaps that use
  10.     the system colors
  11.   - display an image in 16 color, 256 color, or truecolor display modes
  12.   - display an image in full screen mode
  13.   - print an image with scaling, best proportional fit on the page, or
  14.     fit for full page
  15.   - red/green/blue or hue/saturation/brightness adjustment
  16.   - contrast enhancement
  17.   - gamma correction
  18.   - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip, and image resizing
  19.   - image cropping
  20.   - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, or Targa files to JPEG File
  21.     Interchange Format
  22.   - copy an image to the clipboard or paste an image from the clipboard
  23.   - slideshow: display selected files sequentially with a cycle option
  24.   - image buffering in a cyclic slideshow
  25.   - support for file name extension association and starting a slideshow

  38. KNOWN PROBLEMS 
  39. There are two bugs in the 256 color ET4000 driver that comes with the
  40. OS/2 2.1 beta or OS/2 2.0 + Service Pack: 1) the driver does not stretch
  41. the bitmap correctly so the Stretch to Fit Window option does not work
  42. properly, and 2) the image under the dialog box or under the drop-down
  43. menu is not re-drawn with the right colors.  Use the Auto-Refresh option
  44. if you have the second problem.

  46. If you are using the 256 color ET4000 driver, for certain images such as
  47. 24-bit images displayed with Maximum Color Depth set to 256 colors, the
  48. text that shows the cropping dimensions is garbled by a filled box.
  49. This appears to be a bug in OS/2's palette manager or the driver.
  50.  
  51. If you are using a 256 color driver, when you exit PMJPEG, the system
  52. colors do not immediately return to normal.  The system colors are
  53. gradually restored by OS/2.   You can force the colors to change back by
  54. opening and/or closing a window, such as the window list that pops up
  55. when you hit CTL-ESC.

  58. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  59. You are free to distribute this shareware version of PMJPEG as long as the
  60. following conditions are met:
  61.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  62.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  63.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  64.      is permitted.
  65.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  66.      without permission from the authors.

  69. HOW TO REGISTER   
  70. If you use PMJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  71. PMJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest version of
  72. PMJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we will put as
  73. many as we can fit on 2 720k 3 1/2" floppies, on 1 1.44M
  74.  3 1/2" floppy, or on 4 360k 5 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered
  75. version does not have the reminder-to-register screen at the start.

  77. The registration fee is only $20.  MA residents, add 5% sales tax to the
  78. registration fee.  US residents, add $4 for shipping and handling;
  79. non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.   If you want PMJPEG
  80. e-mailed to your account instead of having it physically mailed to you,
  81. there is no extra shipping charge.

  83. Updates are free but the shipping charge described above applies to updates.
  84. Users who register PMJPEG and provide an e-mail address will automatically
  85. receive updates via e-mail.

  87. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  88. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your information,
  89. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  90. called "uuencode".  If your mail system rejects large messages, we will
  91. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  92. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a text editor before
  93. you can decode them.  Compuserve, for example, does not permit large
  94. e-mail messages.  Also, the uuencoded file is rather large; it is
  95. approximately 300k for PMJPEG v.1.3.  Compuserve users may find it less
  96. expensive to receive PMJPEG via U.S. Mail.

  98. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  99. returned.

  108. Registration of PMJPEG is based on "personal usage."  Corporate or
  109. organizational users must register all copies used on an individual
  110. basis; a specific person (name) must be explicitly assigned to each
  111. registrant who will be provided with a personalized copy of PMJPEG.
  112. Registration grants a specific person (not an organization or
  113. corporate entity) the right to use PMJPEG.

  115. Although we will try to mail your copy of PMJPEG 1-3 weeks after
  116. we receive your registration, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for
  117. delivery.
