  1.     STEP BY STEP FOR PLAY AND LOADING SAVED GAMES ON DOOM NETWORK

  3. Here is the "step 1-2-3" for setting-up "DOOM" for 2 player network. It
  4. "should" apply to 4 player as well, although we only have 2. Also, let
  5. me say we knew NOTHING of Networks before attemping this. And maybe STILL
  6. don't, But hey it works, so sue me. So, it's pretty simple IF you KNOW 
  7. what is needed, AND figure out how to put it all together.

  9. My friend and I felt a need for such a file for it may save some poor souls
  10. the "journey through technical hell" from which we have now returned 
  11. VICTORIOUS!!!!....Here goes.

  13. Parts:   GVC NIC2000 10Base2 Ethernet adapter cards......  $70 / each   (2-4)
  14. ------   
  15.          COAX Cable .....................................  $20          (1-3?)
  16.          
  17.          50 ohm resisters (VERY IMPORTANT!!).............  $2.50 / each (2)     
  18.           (We had to trek BACK 10 miles through a snow storm for these!)
  19.           (IDIOTS!!!, not us, them! rhymes with StompUSA)
  20.          
  21.          T-Connectors (Should come with card)............   ?.??        (2-4)

  23.                                               Grand Total: $165 and change

  25.          *NOTE about Net Cards: There are 10Base2 , and 10Base-T.
  26.           The difference is the cable. The 10Base2 uses COAX much
  27.           like your TV cable but thinner. 10Base-T uses a cable with
  28.           a telephone type end on it. We used 10Base2. Also, GVC makes
  29.           a card with your choice of both, for $10 more.

  31.           *NOTE about resisters!!!!!!! This is a MUST item. The 
  32.           jerks at <insert your "favorite" computer store here>,
  33.           failed to even mention this small and inexpensive item.
  34.           You need 2 to cap the ends of the COAX cable. Also 
  35.           make sure your cards come with T-connectors. Ours did.

  37. Software:   3 *.COM Files, Execute in this order before running DOOM

  40.                 NIC2000.COM     <-Came with card, Use what came with yours
  41.                 IPXODI.COM

  43.                 That is it!!!!!!.. No other sofware needed

  47.                         cd\DOOM <Enter>
  48.                         SETUP   <Enter>
  49.                         Run Network Options...

  51. FOR SAVED GAMES AND GENERAL OPERATIONS:

  53.   1.) Clean AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS   I mean CLEAN!!!!!... No TSRs!!!!
  54.       Every Game says this but this time it really is TRUE!!!!
  55.   
  56.   2.) Load LSL, NIC2000, IPXODI in order after a warm or cold boot on ALL
  57.       machines. Do this BEFORE starting ANY new or saved games while
  58.       in network play.
  59.   
  60.   3.)If new game run SETUP in \DOOM directory 
  61.       Choose network play . 
  62.       If loading a saved game, Choose ..from saved game.
  63.  
  64.   This should cover all bases.....Good Luck!! Its a KILLER!!!
