Still he persists. He longs for a reprieve, some light to bathe him of this foul absence, but no, it's unforgiveness is maddening . He panics, then pauses. . . "For I am surely the fool, the only thing as definite and unwavering as darkness ... is light!" "This awful night must end, will end, and give way to the life-giving day." Fear creeps over him once again, however, like the swarm of lightning bugs that teases him with their flittering. What if the day does not come, the sun not rise? What if the only thing that awaits this twisted world is eternal night? Still he persists, but now his only thoughts are of impending doom.
