GEN v1.2 by Phil Herron REGISTRATION $15.00
DISK FILE GENERATING TEST UTILITY HERRON JAN90 UTIL
Update
* Sends a specified number of chars to any device.
* Can use to produce disk files of any size.
* On-screen progress indication (20K increments).
* Elapsed time displayed at termination.
* Quantity discounts for multiple registrations.
* NEW IN THIS VERSION:
Following a run during which midnight occurs, prior
versions displayed incorrect elapsed times. This
version corrects that oversight.
Syntax: GEN [length] [>[>filespec or device]]
Gen replaces trial-and-error methods for building files of
specific sizes for timing tests or tests of printers, disk
drives and print spooler configurations.
It generates files of any size from zero to twenty million
bytes, much faster than typing random characters into a text
editor. Besides generating files on disk, it can send a
specific number of characters directly to the console screen,
printer or other DOS device.
Before GEN, the alternatives for producing files of a
specific size for testing drives or print spooler
configurations were:
1 - Type random characters into a text editor, or
2 - Use the DOS DEBUG utility.
The first is very slow; the second requires some familiarity
with DEBUG. GEN requires no prior knowledge or experience.
Hardware Requirements : IBM PC, XT, AT or compatible
with at least 64K RAM.
Other Requirements : DOS 2.1 or later.
