Super File Encryptor (v4.01) by TC Software REGISTRATION ($20.00)
(Abstracted from the program documentation)...
A file encryptor, as you may already know, is used to make your file
unreadable or unusable. I had always wanted a program for encrypting
my letters and journals so none of my overinquisitive friends and
family could read them. I had used other shareware encryptors, but
being a born hacker, I decided to write my own with the features I
wanted.
- - -
To run SFE, just type SFE at your DOS prompt. For encrypting large
files, a harddrive is highly recommended because it creates a
temporary file while encrypting. If you are using a floppy drive,
make sure that the free space is at least the size of the file you
want to encrypt.
- - -
There are five levels of encryption. Level 1, the least complex and
the fastest, is recommended for most of the files you want to encrypt;
level 1 is the default. Levels 2-5 are much slower and more complex
providing greater protection.
- - -
While encrypting, SFE displays the percentage encrypted, the file size
of the file being encrypted, and the level of encryption. When it is
done encrypting, it will erase the original file by writing a bunch of
zeroes over the file. This prevents unwanted hackers from using a
sector editor (a way of looking at the contents of your disk) to see
your original document.
- - -
Decrypting a file is similar to encrypting, just remember your
password. If you choose to decrypt a file that is not encrypted, you
need not worry, SFE will not decrypt it.
- - -
Selecting files is a nice feature. A screen appears that displays the
files of the directory you are in. To move through the files use your
up and down arrow keys. To highlight or unhighlight a file, use the
SPACEBAR; this will place or remove an asterisk next to the file. You
can highlight as many as you want. When you are done, and have chosen
at least one file, you can proceed to encrypt them by providing one
password that each will share.

This software will run on an IBM PC/XT/AT or compatible. It has been
tested on a Tandy 1000, a Tandy 1000 SX, a Tandy 1000 TX (a 286
machine), and a MITAC 386/16 Mhz. 128K of RAM as required. It will
also run in either Monochrome or Color.
