This disk contains utilities written by Norm Patriquin.
PALERT is a utility program to help you avoid unexpectedly running out
of disk space. Many times application programs terminate abnormally
or disallow you from completing a function because of insufficient
disk space. Sometimes, this may cause you to lose valuable work time
and sometimes causes data to be lost. PALERT watches your disk space
and warns you when space is getting low.
PATTR sets DOS attributes for the files or filename wildcards you
specify. Use it to set or reset archive status on files or to
protect/unprotect files with the readonly attribute. PATTR's file
selection parameters provide you with numerous options for specifying
the files to be deleted. You may select by directory, file, date,
attribute, size, and even starting and ending filename.
PMOVE/PCOPY -- Advanced replacement for DOS COPY
The DOS COPY command is one of its most used commands. Unfortunately,
its abilities are very limited and are not sufficient for many disk
maintenance chores performed by users. PCOPY is similar to the DOS
COPY command in that it copies file data between disks and hard disk
directories. In addition, PCOPY is greatly superior to DOS copy in
that it provides intelligent file selection and processing options.
PCOPY options allow you to use a single PCOPY command to perform a
function that would require many DOS copy commands and much thought.
PMOVE is an option of the PCOPY command used to move files between
disks and directories on disks. PMOVE combines the functions of DOS
COPY and DELETE commands to make moving files very easy. In addition
to just moving files, PMOVE also allows selection criteria to be
specified to better qualify the files to be moved. PMOVE
automatically determines the environment the move is requested for and
then determines if the data must be moved or if the file can be moved
by renaming. Moving with rename is allowed if the move is to another
directory on the same disk device. If a rename move can be done, it
is much faster than moving the data, it helps to keep from fragmenting
disk free space, and allows very large files to be moved between
directories when they could not normally be moved with DOS COPY
because of insufficient space.
PDELETE is an advanced Delete command to be used in DOS operating
systems. It may be used in place of the DOS Erase and Delete command
or instead of it. Like other Patriquin utilities, PDELETE gives you
more control of command processing and provides a much safer way to
process files. PDELETE also provides several features not found with
the standard DOS command. Unlike other delete utilities, PDELETE does
support DOS paths and wildcards. It keeps you aware of what files are
being processed and provides an emergency stop feature just in case
you have started something you feel is wrong.
PPRINT is a general purpose print utility that can be used with HP
laser or other printers. PPRINT will scan a directory and select
files for printing. Print control parameters govern the print
process. A special print feature for the HP laserjet printer allows
printing two pages on both halves of a side of paper. This is
especially nice for printing large documents as it saves paper and
print time.
PPRINT is special and unique because it is customisable to any printer
type. It also allows you to access printer features not normally
available for printing normal text files.
The printer definition file is a standard text file that may be edited
by most any word processor or editor. Several definition files are
included in the archive.
PSEARCH -- Search for filenames on disk or text within files.
PSEARCH is a generalized search facility for all PC users. PSEARCH
can search the current directory or all directories of an hard disk
for files or text in files. It also can scan non-text files and show
only the text (readable) data from the file. PSEARCH is not just
another search type command. It works with normal DOS command
parameters or with menus. This ensures that PSEARCH can be used by
anyone that uses a PC.
PTOUCH Scans the files matching the input file specification and sets
the date and time values as desired. Use it to reset incorrectly set
dates in files.
