  3.    LOGAN, W.Va. (AP) -- A man who barricaded himself in his house
  4. for 14 hours despite attempts to drive him out with tear gas was
  5. shot and killed by troopers in an exchange of gunfire early Sunday.
  6.    Troopers went to the house of Roosevelt Williams, 81, on Saturday
  7. after his daughter told them that Williams had been drinking and
  8. refused to see anybody for several days, said State Police Sgt. Glen
  9. Ables.
  10.    As officers approached the house, Williams shot at them. Ables
  11. said.
  12.    State police returned with a warrant and reinforcements six hours
  13. later and were shot at again, Ables said.
  14.    Williams refused to talk to his daughter on the telephone, and
  15. shot at police as they lobbed tear gas canisters into the house,
  16. Logan Police Chief Timothy Wylie said.
  17.    Police used up all the tear gas on hand about 3 a.m. and three
  18. troopers crept into the house in an attempt to capture Williams,
  19. Ables said.
  20.    Williams shot at the three, who returned fire, killing him, Wylie
  21. said.
