  1. HERB :          DAMIANA
  2. BOTANICAL NAME: Turnera diffusa L.
  3. SYNONYMS      : Mexican Damiana
  4. LOCALES FOUND : Texas & Mexican Deserts
  5.  
  6. The effects of Damiana  are to stimulate the genito-
  7. urinary tract, acting as a mild aphrodisiac and also
  8. produces a euphoria like that produced by the THC in
  9. Marijuana for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

  11. CAUTION : Excessive long term use of this herb may be
  12. toxic to the liver (in a way similar as alchol can)
  13.  
  14. Damiana can be prepared as a tea, using two heaping
  15. tablespoons of dried leaf and letting it seep for just
  16. under 5 minutes. [Adding a tablespoon of Catnip to this
  17. can increase the euphoria effect but may detract from
  18. the Aphrodisiac stimulation].
  19.    It can also be prepared as a liquer, by mixing it
  20. with Vodka (1 ounce leaf to 1 pint vodka for 5 days
  21. before consuming), but may have a mild purgative result
  22. in some people.
  23.    You can also place it within a brownie mix, as if
  24. marijuana, at about the same levels. This cuts the
  25. flavor, but not the effects as far as is known.
  26.    It can also be added to a standard meade recipe,
  27. about 1 ounce per gallon, at the start of fermentation
  28. process.

  30.    Damiana is useful in magical work in that it aids in
  31. the breaking down of the natural mental barriers and
  32. inhibitors, if not used in excess, and preferably not by
  33. someone working on the opening of a gateway/portal. It
  34. can be highly useful in tantra magics and in such activities
  35. as Astral travel, deep meditation and spirit quests.
  36.    Damiana is LEGAL at present in the US, but like most
  37. herbs that have mind-influencing affects there have been
  38. attempts at legislation to prevent its sale in some states
  39. but so far it should not be a problem. Damiana may also
  40. be useful in small quantities for stomache ailments,
  41. and pain relief in mixes with other herbs.
