Information on the Shooting of a Militia Chaplain
WITH EXPLICIT RESERVATION OF ALL RIGHTS (U.C.C. 1-207)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was captured of PatriotNet on my BBS. A very interesting incident.
It look to me like this man was shot just because he didn't have a license
plate.
NEWS RELEASE - JUNE 29, 1995
NCCCM NATIONAL CONFEDERATION OF CITIZENS MILITIAS
Harbor Springs, Michigan
Witnesses said that at approx. 2:00 A.M. on Wednesday morning,
June 28, the police stopped Chaplain Michael Hill, age 50, for
driving without a license plate. Three witnesses that were
following Chaplain Hill in another car said that after a brief
conversation with the police officer, Chaplain Hill returned to
his car and pulled away as did the second car of witnesses.
A few miles down the road, the same police officer, once again,
pulled Chaplain Hill ofer, and once again Chaplain Hill stepped
out of his car and walked toward the police cruiser with his
arms down to his side. Witnesses said that Sergeant May of
Frazeysburg, Ohio, stepped out of his car with his weapon
drawn and without provocation murdered Chaplain Hill by firing
4 shots. Three shots hit the Chaplain and killed him.
Officer May claimed that Chaplain Hill stepped out of his car
holding a 45 caliber semiautomatic hand gun in both hands as in
a shooting position - thus condradicting the 3 eye witnesses. In
addition, news reports make no mention of eye witnesses.
Kenneth Adams, reporting from the headquarters of the National
Confederation of Citizen Militias is very concerned about the
conflicting reports on this incident, He stated, "I hope that
shooting Militia members by law enforcement officials in this
country has not become a sporting event. Because Officer May
was accused last year, of police brutality using his weapon on
a traffic stop, our judicial arm of the NCCM has arranged for
Nancy Lord, Civil Libertarian Attorney, representing Lawyers
for Liberty and other attorneys to look intio this matter.
Kenneth Adams and Nancy Lord will be traveling to Frazeysburg
where a press conference will be held tomorrow, Friday June
30 at 2:00 P.M. at the park, at the gazebo, to report on the
findings concerning this serious matter. If the allegations
against this officer prove to be valid, every legal step
available will be pursued to see that justice prevails."
A fund has been set up for Chaplain Mike Hill's family:
Here's another account of the story, from a different source, which claims
that Hill drew his gun first. Which is true? We'll probably never know
BELOW: THE AP WIRE VERSION
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
FRAZEYSBURG, Ohio - A man stopped by police for driving a car with a
homemade license plate that read "Militia" was shot dead Wednesday after he
pulled a gun.
Police later received calls threatening revenge. Mayor Robert Davis said
the village's four full-time officers and 14 volunteer officers would
patrol in pairs as a precaution.
Sgt. Matt May stopped the car about 2:15 a.m. just outside Frazeysburg, a
village about 50 miles east of Columbus, because it had no state license
plate, Sheriff Bernie Gibson said.
The driver, 50-year-old Michael H. Hill, stopped and got out. May asked him
to get back inside. The man complied, then drove away. May followed for a
few miles until the man stopped and got out again, Gibson said.
This time, Gibson said, the man had a .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun,
holding it with both hands as if in a shooting position. The officer fired
four times, striking the man with three bullets, Gibson said.
Gibson said he could not confirm if Hill, of Woodsfield, was a member of
any militia group.
Gibson said people called his office after the shooting, threatening
revenge and claiming Hill was a militia member. He said no officer's life
had been threatened.
"We have talked to several people who are supposedly high-ranking," Gibson
said. "They are trying to defuse the thing and so are we." He would not
identify the militia leaders.
Gary Long, of the Southeastern Ohio Defense Force militia in nearby
Zanesville, said he didn't know Hill. Calls to other militia branches were
not returned.
Long said his group is peaceful. "There is no animosity between the militia
and law enforcement around here," he said. "We work with them."
