Candide Sean Percival
By Voltaire Period 4
11/4/94
Chapter 1
In the first chapter we meet Candide. The satire of this chapter
was when he passed by though the park he saw Dr. Pangloss having sex with
mothers chambermaid and thought it wuz a lesson in experimental physics.
He then is caught kissing the Lady Cunegonde and was kicked out of the
castle.
Chapter 2
The Satire of this chapter is the way he makes fun of the Germans
with the town name Waldberghoff-trarbk-dikdorff. Then with no money he
meets tow men in the army who buy him a drink and are very nice to him.
The reson they are so nice to him is because he fits the size of a uniform
they have and so Candid joins the army without knowing it.
Chapter 3
The satire of this chapter is when the man who just talked about
charity in front of a large assembly for an hour refused to give him any
food and he said he did'nt deserve it. In this chapter Candid for a
second time leaves the army and venders though the war torn viliges.
Chapter 4
The chapter is about Candid finding out that his love lady Cunegonde
was died he fainted twice at this news. The satire is that the doctor
pangloss's treatment was the lost of one eye and one ear...and this helped
him?
Chapter 5
Candide, Pangloss and the Antibabtist all take a ship that sinks
and the only to live out of the crew are Candide, Pangloss and a sailor.
Then there is an earthquake and the sailer in fear of the end of the world
gets drunk and finds a young girl and pays her to pleaser him. The satire
is that the sailor would have sex before he dies i guess he felt he needed to
Chapter 6
In this chapter the town decides to put a auto-da-fè in to protect
from earthquakes in the future. What an auto-da-fè is not certain. The satire
is that Candide and Pangloss are put in prision for speaking and for listing
maybe they heard something they werent saposed to hear.
Chapter 7
This chapter Candide found out that his love Cunegonde was still
alive and told Candide the story that happened to her. The satire wus that
he was send into a jail and from it he found his lost love.
Chapter 8
In Chapter 8 the Lady Cunegonde told about what had hapened at her
castle and how she got were she was. The Satire was when she told Candide
about her scar he asked to see it and she said dont worry you well, so
there was alot of sex in their future.
Chapter 9
In this Chapter Candide was introduced to the Inquistor and he
insulted him and Candide got into a fight with him and in the end the
inquistor was killed. The Lady Cunegonde was worried about the police
coming to get them this is ironic because she wus aready wanted by
many solders
Chapter 10
In this Chapter Candide, Lady Cunegonde and the old woman went to
Cadiz and set sail from there. Cunegonde says, "I've had such misfourdens
in my world that my heart is closed to hope. This is a satire becuase she
has been so lucky escaping death and finding her love.
Chapter 11
The old woman told about her birth in this chatper and what she
had to go though. The satire of this chapter was that this old woman was
once a beutifull princess and then in a few year she is turned into a old
poor servant.
Chapter 12
In this chapter the odl woman told Candide about more of her
misfortunes in her life that brought her into the present day servent
that she is. The ironic part of this chapter is the man told him that he
would give him a ride to Italy but he took him to Algies and sold him to
the dey.
Chapter 13
In this chapter he is forced to leave his love Cunegonde and the
old woman after all that he has been though. The satire is that Candide
is not happy that pangloss was hung becuase he felt that he knew about
all the evils of this world but Candide has already been though many of
them.
Chapter 14
In this chapter Candide and Cascambo were in cadiz and recived the
Jesuits of Paeaguay. The satire of this is that Cascambo and Candide both
tell the captain of some good news about the barons and for it they are
disarmed and there horses are taken away from them.
Chapter 15
We learn about how Candide killed the brother of his love
Cunegonde and how his family was killed and he was helped by the juites.
Candide wanted to marry his love and his brother did'nt want it though.
Dr pangloss thought all were equel and this was the main idea of the
Enlightenment this wus ironic.
Chapter 16
Candide and Cascambo picked up two girls, two monkeys and meet some
savages know as the Oreillons. In this Chapter Cascambo is now refead to
as the valient one. The satire here is that they cursed the Inquestor of
Portuguel and the Govereneer or Buenos Ares and this in the early Part
of the Enlighenemnet is what got the Enlightenment started
Chapter 17
This Chapter Candide and the "Valient" Cascambo travel to the border
of the Oreillons border and they enter a town Called Eldorado were they
tried to pay with stones from the road but were treaded kindly. It is ironic
becuase the man at the inn is understnading rthat they are foeriners and
lets them leave.
Chapter 18
This chapter tells what the two travelers did in Eldorado and what
they saw there. There is a ironic parrt of this story and it is when they
finnily get enough money to buy back lady Cunegonde and they spent the
night with those two girls the nioght before.
Chapter 19
In This chapter they had a quite pleasent journy as they said to
Surinam meet the man called martin. In this chapter the Satire is that the
man who thought he wuz a Socinian he wants him to come with him on his
journey to teach him.
Chapter 20
What this chapter is about the old scholor Martin and his Travel on
the sea with Casacombo and there adventrues. The satire is that casacombo
wants to see Cunegonde but martin has nothing to see or hope for though
he is a great scholar.
Chapter 21
In this chapter the three travlers reason and talk about anything
on there trip along the coast of france. The satire is that martin feels
that half the people are mad in france when he has no hopes and he is a
philosopher himself.
Chapter 22
In France Candid and Martin see may plays and talk to a wise man
named Abbe. The satire about this chapter is when they find out that of the
thousands of plays written in frnace only 14 to 15 are good and martin thinks
that is alot he must feel the french has no abilities.
Chapter 23
In this Chapter Candid and martin go to the coast of England and
Candide finds out he may see his love once again in Venice. The Satire is
that he is worried about being robbed by the capatin like he wuz from the
captiain to Sumiern and thats hows that Candide is becomeing less trust
worthy of other people.
Chapter 24
In this chapter Candide arrives in Venice were he knows his love is
and lookes in all inns and everywere to find her but he cant. The Satire is
when he is sure she is dead he would like to die to but he is just depressed
and martin helps him.
Chapter 25
In Chapter 25 Candide and Martin visit the Venetian Nobleman Sigor
Pococurante and visit his beutifull house. The ironic part about this is when
Candide sees the two beutiful servents he forgets about his love with
questions his love for her.
Chapter 26
This Chapter is about when Candide and Martin have dinner with
six foriners he finds out that his love Cangonde is in Constantnoble and
he wants to go there. The Satire here is that Candide doesnt belive
the six foeiners because he has been lied to so may times but they were
telling the truth this time.
Chapter 27
What happened in this Chpter was that Candide went to Constannoble
with Martin to find his long lost love Cunegonde and Camcabo wus now the
faithfull and not the vailient. The Ironic part of this chapter is that he
just had dinner with 6 kings and can only think about his love.
Chapter 28
In this Chapter the "hung" Dr. Pangloss and Candide meet once and
again and Dr. Pangloss is killed for good this time. The satire is that how
did Candide meet up with people that in real life would be lost for ever like
Dr. Pangloss and Cunegonde it is to unreal.
Chapter 29
In this chapter Candid finnily meets up with his old love and
the old woman from way back in the book he is finnily happy again. The Ironic
is that once again Candide has meet up with two people a world away by pure
luck.
Chapter 30
The story is over and candide thinks of some wise words he heard from
a turkish man and is at peace with his loce Cunegonde and can settle down and
"cultivate the garden"............
