The WABU calls are now being used. They have a nice new moving logo that has a
big "68" with the calls WABU underneath. I didn't notice a "-TV" suffix.

Hi - I'm looking for information on what stations in the US broadcast the
syndicated Gene Burns Program, a three-hour call-in talk show. Gene used to
have a lock on the 10-2 midday talk market in Boston on WRKO 680 AM before
he went for national syndication and greener pastures.
In Boston, his new show airs from 2000 to 2300 EST -- tape delayed
five hours from it's live broadcast time of 1500-1800 EST.
I gather that the show originates in NYC. What station?
I'm interested in particular in knowing who airs the show on the west
coast, preferably northern California.
Thanks,
John

According to Pacifica's David Salniker (Executive
Director), refering to recent attacks on public
radio, "there will be another round of attacks
on public broadcasting this spring, when CPB comes
up for reauthorization. Conservatives are again
aiming at discrediting and defunding any grants for
programs they deem controversial."
"Right-wing talk radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh
already spread racism and fear through the commercial
airwaves. And the broadcast media as a whole,
commercial and religious, has become steadily
more conservative. The far right is planning to
get US media in a hammerlock as a step toward
recapturing political power."
Highwater reports are 1/2 hour weekly newscasts
condensed from articles on misc.activism.progressive.
We are in our twelfth week of production and
deliver programs to over thirty unlicensed,
independent, noncommercial, college, and short
wave stations at no cost. Reports are aired by Radio
Peace International, Berkeley Free Radio, Newsdesk
Amsterdam, and by stations in Connecticut, Salt
Lake City, Texas, South Africa, Hawaii, Washington
DC, and others. Highwater reports have also been
uplinked to Nat'l Public Radio Satellite since
report #8.
Highwater is commited to providing int'l and
nat'l news regarding US Gov involvement in
human rights abuses, arms trades, labor
struggles, ecological movements, women's
rights and indigenous people's rights.

Due to a series of urgent maintenance interventions on our 7,125 kHz
transmitter, IRRS-Shortwave **might be** ***temporarily*** off the air
during weekdays between November 8 and November 20, 1993.
We will try to schedule maintenance to our transmitter in order to have a
minimal impact on all of our relay broadcasts, and a special effort will be
made to guarantee regular operations during our main Saturday and Sunday
transmissions.
Regular operations MON-FRI between 6-9:15 UTC, and 12-21:15 UTC, and SAT-SUN
between 06-22:30 UTC (wintertime) will be resumed on Nov. 21, 1993.

I>There used to be (is?) a program broadcast out of KCRW in

Seeing you are from Penn I would guess that you, like me, listened to
Joe Frank on WXPN FM 88.5. They use to play it Fridays and Sundays at 10
PM, then went just to 10 PM Sundays (after their 2 hours of gay/lesbian
programs "Amazon Country" and "Gay Dreams") although this time slot was
coincidental, I guess. I loved this show. I made some tapes because I
couldn't always stay awake the full hour (I'm an early riser) and I find
now that I listen again and again to the 20 or so shows I taped. He has
a very peculiar, surreal sense of drama and storytelling. I think his
shows and monologues are available on cassette from Joe Frank c/o KCRW
in Sanata Monica, the same place that does Harry Shearer's "Le Show".
When WXPN took Joe off the air about 1-1/2 years ago I think they said
he was taking some time off to persue other things. BTW I've always
wondered if he was the one (although I doubt it) in the one-hit wonder
group in the 70's _Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds_ ("Baby, Baby, I'm
Falling in Love Again") Anyway, I would like to know if he is still
being broadcast anywhere in the Phila./Baltimore/Washington area myself.
I would also like to know anything about his backround or other
artistic/performance work he has done or is doing. Is there a Joe Frank
FAQ?

Bill....
Is it true that WEDC/WSBC/WCRW still share time there in Chicago?
Are they minority formats ... anything of interest in their stories?
Actually, now that I think of it, I wonder how many sharetimes still exist.
Got to do some research there!
take care

[Moderator's Note: Yes the stations still share a frequency, and two
of them now share facilities. WCRW has abandoned its building-top
tower near Diversey and Lake Shore Drive (NO ground conduction) and
is not using WEDC's tower on Chicago;s NW side. WSBC is co-owned with
WXRT-FM and WSCR-AM. Also, WVON (black talk) and WCEV (Ethnic) share
