  64. Some time back, the BBC in their mad desire to replace radio 4 long
  65. wave with an all news channel, offered (or stated) that R4 was going
  66. to be put onto a commercial sattelite (ASTRA ?) as part of regular
  67. transmissions. (I think this was to keep all those people in Europe
  68. who listened to R4 long wave happy).

  111. That was indeed old Uncle Lar, and the year was 1975.  Believe it or
  112. not, Superjock could not wriggle out of his CFL contract for six months
  113. following the format change.  When he finally did, it was back to WLS,
  114. where he no doubt kicked CFL's ass in the mornings.

  117. As I recall, the CFL gig was afternoons, too.  Those people who wonder
  118. why Lujack ever risked 86'ing his career by moving to PM on WLS should
  119. bear in mind that he did it before and was not faring badly -- tho' his
  120. station apparently was.

  176. On Friday November 5 at 4:00am Central Time (I regularly wake up at
  177. 5am as I work out at the YMCA at 6), I heard what sounds like a legal ID:

  181. I thought a US station is required by the FCC to broadcast a legal ID 
  182. (call letters and city of license) at +/- 10 minutes within
  183. the top of the hour.  That was what was stated in the
  184. AM/FM DXing FAQ on rec.radio.info/rec.radio.shortwave.

  232. Yes, he is...at least from Boston morning radio he is. He was expected
  233. to walk away from 'BCN earlier this fall to join his wife and kids in
  234. Florida.(He flies down there on weekends). However, he needed more time
  235. to care of some business matters like selling his mansion in Dover,Mass
  236. etc...Charles has been dropping alot of on-air hints about moving to
  237. Florida and joking about it with his Mattress sidekicks...I would expect
  238. an official announcement from him any day now...

  256. I stand corrected. Yes, Harvard Broadcasting's 3KW WHRB-95.3FM is
  257. indeed a commercial station. Of course, no one could ever accuse them of
  258. operating/programming just like any other commercially licensed station in
  259. town...:-)
  260. (The only exception to that might be Cambridge's 'beatiful music' WJIB-740AM(250 KW
  261. during th day and meager 5 watts at night) which is a commercial station
  262. but sells no ads).

  265. playing jazz music on a weekday basis.

  287. Dunno, but WHRV-FM in Norfolk, VA at 89.5 has a daily jazz show.  Pretty
  288. good, too.
