  34.  ---------------
  35.  What follows is a simple guide to enable new users to operate the system
  36.  quickly. This demonstration will show how to monitor a mobile phone located
  37.  within the same cell (Transmission Area) as yourself. Once the cell in which
  38.  the phone located is known however, reception can be possible up to a range
  39.  of around 5-10 miles for a mobile or vehicle mounted CellTRAK system, or up
  40.  to a maximum of around 20 miles for fixed equipment with external antenna.
  41.
  42.  The first thing that must be done is to enter a target telephone number,
  43.  these numbers are referred to by the cellular system as MIN numbers (Mobile
  44.  Identity Numbers) and are slightly different to the usual telephone number.
  45.  To calculate the MIN for any given telephone number the first 3-5 digits of
  46.  the telephone number are replaced by a "System code". This is very simple
  47.  to calculate using the following chart :-
  48.
  49.
  50.
  51.            0836-XXXXXX (Vodafone, United Kingdom)  =  2340-XXXXXX
  52.            0831-XXXXXX (Vodafone, United Kingdom)  =  2344-XXXXXX
  53.            0860-XXXXXX (Cellnet,  United Kingdom)  =  2342-XXXXXX
  54.            0850-XXXXXX (Cellnet,  United Kingdom)  =  2346-XXXXXX
  55.            0088-XXXXXX (EireCell, Ireland)         =  2720-XXXXXX
  56.            0337-XXXXXX (S.I.P.,   Italy)           =  2222-XXXXXX
  57.
  58.            Where X means the number stays the same.
  59.            For other country/system codes please call your supplier.
  60.
  61.  PLEASE NOTE:
  62.  In some organisations editing of the target "MIN List" may be prohibited.
  63.  This is indicated by a warning tone when the Edit function is selected. In
  64.  this case numbers may be supplied as external files that can be loaded
  65.  using the File Menu.
  66.
  67.
  68.
  69.  To enter your target MIN number, hold down the ALT key and press E to bring
  70.  up the "Edit menu". Select "Edit MIN List" and enter the MIN numbers in the
  71.  box that pops up, using the cursor keys to move around. When done press the
  72.  Esc key. Up to 16 numbers may be monitored at once, but please note that only
  73.  one call may be monitored at any time and all targets should be located
  74.  within the same cell (Transmission area).
  75.
  76.  Having entered a Target number the next thing is to take note of the
  77.  channel number (frequency code) of the cell in which the phone is located.
  78.  This is easily accomplished by taking the CellTRAK system to within about half
  79.  a mile of the target phone (the nearer the better) and selecting the "View
  80.  Paging Channels" option from the view menu. If moving this close isn't
  81.  suitable there are other options available including coverage maps or specially
  82.  programmed phones that will display which cell is strongest in any area.
  83.
  84.
  85.
  86.
  87.  Using the "View Paging Channels" option take note of the strongest "Paging
  88.  Channel" for the system you require. Two groups of channels will be
  89.  displayed. Channels 0023-0043 are classed as system A, and channels 0323-
  90.  0343 as system B.
  91.
  92.  These two groups of channels are used by various cellular companies around
  93.  the world to enable two systems to operate using the same or similar
  94.  equipment.
  95.               System A (0023-0023)  :  Vodafone,   United Kingdom
  96.                                        S.I.P.,     Italy
  97.                                        Telefonica, Spain
  98.               System B (0323-0343)  :  Cellnet,  United Kingdom
  99.
  100.  In some countries more than two cellular systems operate. To accommodate these
  101.  the View Channel Group option can be used to view other paging or voice
  102.  channel groups.
  103.
  104.
  105.  Having noted the strongest channel for the network to which your target
  106.  phone is connected, select the Options Menu. This will display three options
  107.  which may be toggled on or off. A tick next to the options signifies on.
  108.
  109.   Monitor Any Call      When ON CellTRAK will monitor all calls or activity
  110.                         on the network in addition to any numbers on the
  111.                         target "MIN List".

  114.
  115.   Monitor Call Audio    When OFF the system will just increment the counter
  116.                         next to the MIN number of the phone when the phone
  117.                         registers to the system or makes/receives a call.
  118.                         When ON the system will allow monitoring of calls
  119.                         to/from the phone and follow those calls as they
  120.                         are transferred from one channel(frequency) or cell
  121.                         to another. This option would usually be ON.
  122.

  126.                         this would normally be ON to enable the CellTRAK
  127.                         system to automatically disconnect at the end of all
  128.                         calls. When the CellTRAK system is attended it is
  129.                         recommended this is switched OFF to enable the user
  130.                         to follow a target without losing calls due to week
  131.                         signal strength or interference. (Calls will still
  132.                         terminate if "released" by the system at the end of
  133.                         a call.)
  134.
  135.  For this demonstration set :   Monitor Any Call    =  Off
