  9.      What is a BLACK BOX?   A BLACK BOX
  10. is  a device that is hooked up to  your
  11. fone  that fixes your fone so that when
  12. you get a call,  the caller doesn't get
  13. charged for the call.  This is good for
  14. calls  up to 1/2 hour,  after 1/2  hour
  15. the Fone Co.  gets suspicious, and then
  16. you can guess what happens.

  18.      What  this little beauty  does  is
  19. keep the line voltage from dropping  to
  20. 10v  when  you answer your  fone.   The
  21. line is insted kept at 36v and it  will
  22. make  the  fone think that it is  still
  23. ringing while your talking.  The reason
  24. for the 1/2 hour time limit is that the
  25. Fone CO. thinks that something is wrong
  26. after 1/2 an hour of ringing.

  28.      All  parts  are  available   Radio
  29. Shack.   Using the least possible parts
  30. and arangement,  the cost is $0.98 !!!!
  31. And  that  is  parts for two  of  them!
  32. Talk  about  a deal!   If you  want  to
  33. splurge  then  you can get a  small  PC
  34. board,  and  a switch.   There are  two
  35. schematics  for this box,  one  is  for
  36. most  normal fones.   The second one is
  37. for  fones  that don't  work  with  the
  38. first.  It was made for use with a Bell
  39. Trimline touch tone fone.

  76.      Here is the PC board layout that I
  77. recommend  using.   It  is neat and  is
  78. very easy to hook up.

  99.      Once you have hooked up all  the
  100. parts,  you must figure out what set of
  101. wires  go to the line and which  go  to
  102. the fone.   This is because of the fact
  103. that LED's must be put in, in a certain
  104. direction.  Depending  on which way you
  105. put the LED is what controls what wires
  106. are for the line & fone.

  108. How to find out:
  109.  
  110.      Hook  up the box in one  direction
  111. using one set offor line and the
  112. other for fone.
  113.  
  114. *NOTE*  For Model I switch should be OFF.
  115. *NOTE*  For Model ][ switch  should  be
  116.         set to side connecting the led.
  117.  
  118.      Once  you have hooked it up,  then
  119. pick up the fone and see if the LED  is
  120. on.  If it is, the LED will be lit.  If
  121. is  doesn't light then switch the wires
  122. and try again.  Once you know which are
  123. which  then label  them.   *NOTE*  - If
  124. neither  directions  worked  then  your
  125. èlable   the   switch  in  its   current
  126. position as BOX ON.

  128. How to use it:

  130.      The purpose of this box is not  to
  131. poeple  who  call you so it would  make
  132. sence  that  it  can only  be  used  to
  133. receive! calls.   When the box is  *ON*
  134. then you may only recieve calls.   Your
  135. fone will ring like normal and the  LED
  136. on  the box will flash.   If you answer
  137. the fone now, then the LED will
  138. light and the caller will not be charged.
  139. Hang  up  the fone after you  are  done
  140. talking like normal.   You will not  be
  141. able  to  get a dial-tone or call  when
  142. the  box is on,  so turn the box  *OFF*
  143. for  normal calls.   I don't  recommend
  144. that you leave it on all the  time,  as
  145. you don't want it to answer when Ma
  146. Bell calls!
