File-1 ======Running a Pirate Board======
~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever want to run a Pirate BBS? What are the risks, the safeguards, the
penaltys for getting caught? What kind of contacts do you have to have?
Well, let me give you some insight into the time and effort it takes to
run a [HCPP] board.
*****BBS Set Up*****
~~~~~~~~~~
First of all it takes time! Tons and tons of time to set up and
run a good board. You have to first decide on what software you would
like to run. Here is a list of just some of the boards available:
Telegard 2.5
Emulex /2
Spitfire
Wildcat!
GAP
There are many more and all have their own advantages and dis. I know
I left out a few so nobody go ape-shit or anything. I have found
Telegard 2.5 to be the best software so far. It has excellent security
and a good management system for you, the sysop.
O.K We've decided what software to use! Great. Now you have to
learn how to set it up. HA! You now have a minimum of 200 pages to read.
Or you could do what I did and many others do and dive right in and toss
the manual. (Who reads manuals right?) Setting them up is not realy too
difficult, but I do suggest before you start setting it up, you find
a friend to help you. (2 heads are better than 1) (sometimes) You will
need the following MINIMUM requirements to start and maintain a "Pirate"
BBS: 2400 Baud Modem
Computer (No shit?)
At LEAST 30-40 Megs
A Phone Line (Dedicated!)
Time! and a case of Coke.(Original with Caffine)
Again, let me stress, these are the MINIMUM requirements. For a realy
half decent pirate board you need 80-100 and up MEGS. This allows for
good selection and will atract callers better.
All set up? Good. You need a contact now, to get all those
awsome new game releases from those palls INC THG and PE. (Which
without them would make you impossible!) A good way to establish a
contact is to call another pirate board and buddy buddy with the sysop,
and then tell him you are starting a board and would he mind if you took
the latest warEz at no ratio. (Most will let you if you prove your a
sysop) Make all the friends you can and avoid pissing sysops and strong
users off as they can break you on a whim. Established sysops carry
weight with their users and there is a certain trust of them. If he
tells his users "this guy is a dick", chances are you wont be getting
too many people calling from his board! And last but certainly not
least, you need to build up a collection of all the files and games
you can!
Well thats all I'll write on running a board this issue.

* Beige Boxing *
* or *
* *
* How to get phree calls and screw your neighbors! *
***********************************************************************
Now this is a fun and interesting, if not somewhat risky
way for all you daring Phreakers out there to get phree calls. It's
called Beige Boxing.
Don't ask me why they call it a beige box, because it's not
realy a BOX at all...Let me explain. Beige boxing is simply tapping
physically into someone elses phone line. Here are quick plans and
I'm sure you'll understand...
You Need: 2 Alligator Clips
-------- 1 Old Phone (Preferably a Radio Shack cheapie that when you
lay it down, it hangs up..Know what I mean?
1 Pair of pliers.
Thats It!
What to Do?:
----------- Ok. Now you have your supplies right? Take the old phone
and strip the wires at the end. Attach your 2 alligator clips to the
Green and Red wires. Ta-Dah. That all there is to it! You now have
a portable phone.
How To Use And When?:
--------------------
I have found the best times to use your box are between
11:30pm and 5:30am. This is the time when most people are not around
and you can move about your neighborhood virtually undetected!
You use it by either going to one of those skinny green
buildings somewhere on you street or your neighbors little phone box,
usually found on side of house, and do this:
Open (Gray or Green) box.
Find the two screws that have wires coming from them.
(These should also be Green and Red)
Attach your Red wire to screw with other red wire and
same for the green. Comprende?
Thats it! You should get a dial tone and if you don't then
your box is screwed. If you hear people talking then obviously someone
is on the line. (Shut up and listen)
Uses for Your Box:
-----------------
I'm sure by now most of you have thought of tons of uses
for this wonderfull little gadjet. But for you slow learners here are
just a few uses!
Calling friends in faraway places: Remember your buddy in Taiwan?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Calling Party Lines: Why not? You won't get the BILL!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dial-A-Porn: Hey who put that in here?!
~~~~~~~~~~~
Pissing the Operator off and causing those Idiot neighbors problems:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wicked little Children......
Ok that wraps up this article on Beige Boxes. If you have
questions, lemme know.
Editor.

**********************Begining Hacking*********************************
&
War-Dialing
Systems:
~~~~~~~
There are many different system out there to hack. The
first thing to do is to decide what kinds (Or what) systems you wish to
hack. Choosing a specific type has its advantages because there are many
different systems and to learn them all would be a tremendous effort.
A good way to find systems, if you just want to hack any
thing is to run a "War-Dailer" program. This will dial in the boudries
of a specific set of prefixes and find "Connect"ions. They are called
war dialers because if you all will recall the movie "War Games", it
was used for the same purpose. (Who hasn't seen War Games right?)
I am by no means an expert on Hacking and in fact know
very little on the actual subject, but I will share what I have learned
and you may submit better more descriptive articles later.
Passwords:
~~~~~~~~~
Once you've found a computer, the next step is to
obtain a user account so that you may access the system at will. This is
the hardest part! It takes hours and hours sometimes just to establish
1 account. You have to find a user name that is real and then try and
guess the person's password! This is why it is much easier to hack out
a system you already have access to or know at least the companys name!
If you have the company's name, then you can guess about things relating
to the company.
Carriers:
~~~~~~~~
Anyway as I said I do not know much about Unix and related
Network systems, so you will have to find another Magazine or contribute
your knowledge to making this section better!
Here is a small list of a few carriers I have found using
the "War-Dialer" A-Dial ][. (Available on PD Boards too HA!)
Most of these numebers give you the prompt:
Login:
when you connect to them. I believe that is Unix or
something. I don't realy know. The setting you have to use for most of
these is N,7,1 and 1200 baud seems to be all most of them connect at.
Good luck and if anyone has any kind of "Breakthrough",
be sure and let us know.
~~~~~~~ ******950-1493 Busts!******
***************
By:Editor
With special thanks to Zentraedi for his information!
~~~~~~~~~
1493:
~~~~
In case you Phreakers out there did not know 1493 codez are
a trap! If you have EVER used them then you can just pack it up.
You at least have a 89% chance of getting busted! Let me tell you a
story about Zentraedi and a few other Phreakers at my school!
I'm not sure of the exact date. Say 2-3 weeks after the time of
this articles writing. My friend got a call from his dad in the office
telling him the SHERIFF was on his way to ARREST him...(Hehe hate to be
in his shoes) The F.B.I and Sheriffs Office had come to his home in the
morning while he was at school and searched his house for over 3hours
and confiscated all of his computer equiptment and disks and everything!
His parents were home at the time and I can assume they were not to
over-joyed! Anyways it turns out the company that owns 1493 is a company
called ThriftyTell. They had tons of people hacking out their codez and
called our pals Ma-Bell for a list of all the people that had repeatedly
called their numbers....Ma-Bell handed them a 3 FOOT stack/printout of
the names and info of all the phreakers! Apparently they simply did not
have the money or time to hunt us all down and bust us...Not so with
ThriftyTell. They are going through the pile person by person...
I know what your saying....."So, I quit using 1493's weeks ago!"
Well so had Zen. He hadn't used 1493's for over a MONTH, and they still
busted him...
They are settling out of court and he doesnt know yet how much
it is going to cost him, but he has not gotten his computer back yet and
doesn't know when he will. They have to sentence him or whatever and
then he has to petition to the magistrate to get his system back.
The moral of the story: If you have ever Hacked 1493's,
SHIT BRICKS for awhile.
-=Explanation for beginners=-
950-XXXX-XXXXXX(X) X-XXX-XXX-XXXX
The above is the template used for most 950 phone codez. Codes are
hacked out using F-Hacker or a similar phone code hacker. The program
lets you enter the exchange you wish to hack (0266,1493,0511etc..) and
then select the proper code length, and then it will dial the numbers
over and over, randomly generating a code and target..When a target
"Connects" it will record the code! Neato huh? The drawback is that
most Phone-Companys have ESS(Electronic Switching Systems) and
ANI (Automatic Number Identification), so it does tend to look
awfully suspicious if you dial the same numbers HUNDREDS of times, over
and over...hehe(Always wanted to see the guys face that sees that
happening).
Here is a detailed Code Template Explained!
950-XxXx-XXXXXX(X)-1-XXX-XXX-XXXX
| | |---| | |----|
|--The phone|prefix. |-Area Code
| | |--Number of party to call.
|--The Exchange number.
(0266,0511 Etc..)
|
|- The Access code. A sequence of
6 or 7 numbers.
When using these numbers from a pay phone you will dial
950-XxXx and get a tone and then dial the code, promptly followed by the
number you wish to call.
OK..That about wraps that up for now. If you have ANY questions
or would like to add any information, please contact me on the local
pirate boards.

Needed: Powdered Sugar
Saltpeter
Ok. I read about this from some other article so my
appologies for not remembering the author.(Think is was Black Death)
Anyways, he says these two ingredients can be obtained at any super
market. I'm not so sure about Saltpeter but oh well.
What to Do:
----------
He says all you do is get a flat surface (He used
bottom of coffe can) and apply about a spoonfull of saltpeter to the
surface. Then add an equal amount (You can use all you want but make
sure it is equal) of powdered sugar to the pile.
Ignite, and roll dick roll.
Gives off a shitload of smoke and burns very very hot. Stand
back because I believe it spitts wadds of hot goo about a foot or two.

Stunt Driver: * * * *
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This game is a lot like Hard Drivin, as far as the graphics
and stuff goes. The only real difference being the loops and such are
different and more fun. Good graphics on VGA and EGA and pretty good sound.
You need to select IBM Digitized if you don't have a sound card.
Game is By: Spectrum Holobyte
Hero's Quest I--So you want to be a Hero?: * * * * *
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I cant rave enough about this game! This has GOT TO BE
Sierra On-Line's Best adventure game ever. I think it blows Kings Quest
out of the water. The game is richly detailed and visually stimulating.
There is Sierra's usuall touch of wit mixed in with some of the best
adventuring I've had since the Ultima series came out! If you don't yet
have this game I stronly suggest you download it from the nearest board
as soon as you can. This would have been worth the price believe it or not!
And that can't be said for to many games these days.
Game is By: Sierra On-Line
LHX Attack Chopper: * * * *
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is one of the best flight simulators I've played. They
released this about the same time as Indy 500 and they both share obvious
qualitys icluding: Great Graphics VGA\EGA...Excellent Sound, and superb
Playability. Not much to tell about this game. Just Get IT!
Game is By: Electronic Arts
Back To The Future ][: *
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our first 1-*. This game SUCKED. Whoever wrote it should truly be
punished. I wont even review this game. (Not Worth it!)
Kings Bounty: * * * *
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kings Bounty surprised me. It is a very SMall game..(Like 5 files)
but it was fun and has very nice VGA graphics. It's kind of a cross between
adventure and arcade. You travell around several continents in a boat or
on foot and try and aprehend a bunch of bad guys and collect the bounty.
This is a cool game and would be worth the download. Good for kids too!
Game is By: (awww I forgett....????)
