  26. The Launcher Itself

  29.    Okay the first thing you do is make sure your pipe is pretty evenly
  30. round.    It doesn't have to be perfect, but the worse it is the more
  31. friction the rocket will encounter coming out of the tube, thus
  32. shortening the flight.    Then heft it onto your shoulder and see if you
  33. can lift it, which you should be able to with no difficulty.  Now what
  34. you do is take your Model Rocket Ignition System, and duct tape it to
  35. the top of your pipe, where it is in easy reach.  Don't glue it on because
  36. if you need to change the batteries in the thing you'll have quite a
  37. problem on your hands.    If you're okay with electronics you can use a
  38. doorbell instead of a Rocket Ignition System, and that way you won't
  39. have to have the little safety key and all.  Then tape the wires onto
  40. the pipe going back to the tail end and cut them off so they're not
  41. dangling around.  They should be able to fit about a foot inside the
  42. tube...

  52. The Rocket

  56.    Now for the rocket.    Just follow the instructs for a normal model
  57. rocket, except don't make the recovery system, and don't make the
  58. fins.  Also be sure to glue in the nose cone.  After you're done with
  59. that, measure how big the fins can be and still have the rocket fit in
  60. the launch tube, and cut them out all the same size from the poster
  61. board (12 of 'em, there's gonna be six fins).  Now when you have them
  62. all put 2 together side by side and glue them so that they are twice as
  63. strong as normal.  Do this six times, so now you have six fins, three in
  64. the front, and three in the back.  Glue these to the body tube of the
  65. rocket so that they look like this:

  73. (not a great pic), but when you look from the front you should see all
  74. six fins.  Now measure this against the body tube and slice off the tips
  75. of any fins until they all slide easily through the launcher.

  78. The Blast Plate

  81. Take your two pieces of wood and make a notch in each like this:

  87. each notch should be the width of the other piece of wood.  Then put
  88. them together so they form an X, and slide them into the tube, they
  89. should be snug so that it's not easy to pull the thing out.  Now take it
  90. back out and glue the sheet metal onto the X, so it forms a blast
  91. deflector:

  107. Now take your Rocket and slide it in through the back of the tube, and
  108. insert your igniters into the engine and put it in the rocket so that
  109. it's sort of in the ball may rise and give you 
  110. a few nasty burns.
