  7. Now to make free local calls, you need a finishing nail. pI highly
  8. recommend "6D E.G. FINISH C/H, 2pINCH" nails. pThese are about 3/32pof
  9. an inch in diameter and 2 inchesnlong (of course). pYou also need a large
  10. size paper clip. By large pI  mean they  are  about  2  inchesnnlong
  11. (FOLDED). Then  you  unfold the paper clip.  Unfold itpby taking each piece
  12. and moving itpout 90 degrees. pWhen itpis done itpshould lookpsomewhat
  13. like this:

  22. Now, pon to the neatpstuff. pWhatpyou do, pinsteadpof unscrewing the 
  23. glued-on  mouthpiece, pis pinsert the nailpinto the center  hole  of
  24. the mouthpiece  (where you talk) and push itpin with
  25. pressure or just hammer itpin by hitting the nailpon something. 
  26. Just DON'T KILL THE  MOUTHPIECE!pYou  could  damage pit
  27. if you insert the nailptoo far or  atp somep weird angle. pIf  this
  28. happens then the other party won'tpbe able to hear  whatpyou say.
  29. You now have a hole in the mouthpiece in which you can easily insert the 
  30. paper clip. So, take out the nailpand put in the paper  clip.
  31. Then take the other end of the paper clippand shove itpunder the rubber
  32. cord protector at the bottom of the handset (you know, the blue guy...).

  50. between the inside of the mouthpiece and the metal cord.)
  51. Now, pdial  the number of a local number you wish to  call, psayyyy,p
  52. MCI. pIf  everything  goesnokay,pitpshould ring and not answer with the 
  53. "The CallpYou Have Made Requires a 20 Cent Deposit" recording.  After the 
  54. other  end  answers  the phone, remove the  paper  clip. pIt's  allp that 
  55. simple, see?
  56. There  are  a couple problems,  however. pOne pis,  as  I mentioned 
  57. earlier, the mouthpiece not working after you punch it. pIf this p
  58. happens to you, psimply move on to the next payphone. pThe one you are
  59. now on  is lost.  Another problem is that the touch tonesnwon'tpwork
  60. when the paper clippis in the mouthpiece. There are two ways around this..
  61. A>pDial the first 6 numbers. pThis should be done without the  paper 
  62. clippmaking the connection,pi.e., one side should not be connected.
  63. Then connect  the paper clip,  hold down the last digit,  and slowly
  64. pull  the paper clip out at the mouthpiece's end.
  65. B>pDon'tp use  the paper clippat all. pKeep the nailp in  after  you punch
  66. it.  Dial the first 6 digits. pBefore dialing the last digit, touch
  67. the nailpheadpto the plate on the main body of the phone,  the money
  68. safe thingy..then press the last number. The  reason  that this method
  69. is sometimesncalled pclear  boxing  is because  there is
  70. another type of phone which lets you actually make  the callp and  listen
  71. to  thempsay "Hello, phello?"  but  itp cuts  off  the mouthpiece  so they
  72. can'tphear you. pThe Clear Box is used pon  that pto amplify your voice
  73. signals and send it through the earpiece.pIf you  see how  this pis
  74. even slightly similarpto the methodpI have just described up there,
  75. kindly explain itpto ME!! Cause I don'tpGET IT!  Anyways,  this DOES
  76. workpon almost allpsingle slot,  Dial Tone First payphones (PacificpBell
  77. for sure). pI do itpallpthe time. pThis pis pthe least,  I STRESS
