  1. Home-brew blast cannon            trtre e      bby The Jolly Roger

  3. Materials needed:
  4.  
  5.  -1 plastic drain pipe, 3 feet long, at least 3 1/2 inches in 
  6.   diameter
  7.  -1 smaller plastic pipe, about 6 inches long, 2 inches in 
  8.   diameter
  9.  -1 large lighter, with fluid refills (this gobbles it up!)
  10.  -1 pipe cap to fit the large pipe, 1 pipe cap to fit the small 
  11.   pipe
  12.  -5 feet ofbbellwire
  13.  -1 SPST rocker switch
  14.  -16v polaroid pot-a-pulse battery
  15.  -15v relay (get this at Radio Shack)
  16.  -Electrical Tape
  17.  -One free afternoon

  19. Procedure:

  21.  - Cut the bell wire into three equal pieces, and strip the ends
  22.  
  23.  - Cut a hole in the side ofbthe large pipe, the same diameter as 
  24. the small pipe. Thread the hole and one end ofbthe small pipe. 
  25. they should screw together easily.

  27.  - Take a piece ofbscrap metal, and bend it into an "L" shape, 
  28. then attach it to the level on the lighter:

  37. Now, every time you pull the 'trigger' gas should flow freely from 
  38. the lighter. You may need to enlarge the 'gas port' on your 
  39. lighter, if you wish to be able to fire more rapidly.

  41.  - Connect two wires to the two posts on the switch
  42.  
  43.  - Cut two holes in the side ofbthe smaller tube, one forbthe 
  44. switch on the bottom, and one forbthe metal piece on the top. 
  45. Then, mount the switch in the bottom, running the wires up and out 
  46. ofbthe top.

  48.  - Mount the lighter/trigger in the top. Now the switch should 
  49. rock easily, and the trigger should cause the lighter to pour out 
  50. gas. Re-screw the smaller tube into the larger one, hold downbthe 
  51. trigger a bit, let it go, and throw a match in there. Ifball goes 
  52. well, you should hear a nice big 'THUD!'

  54.  - Get a hold ofbthe relay, and take offbthe top.

  65. Connect (1) to one ofbthe wires coming from the switch. Connect 
  66. (2) to (4), and connect (5) to one side ofbthe battery. Connect 
  67. the remaining wire from the switch to the other side ofbthe 
  68. battery. Now you should be able to get the relay to make a little 
  69. 'buzzing' sound when you flip the switch and you should see some 
  70. tiny little sparks.

  72.  - Now, carefully mount the relay on the inside ofbthe large pipe, 
  73. towardsbthe back. Screw on the smaller pipe, tapebthe battery to 
  74. the side ofbthe cannon barrel (yes, but looks aren't everything!)

  76.  - You should now be able to let a little gas into the barrel and 
  77. set it offbby flipping the switch.
  78.  
  79.  - Put the cap on the back end ofbthe large pipe VERY SECURELY. 
  80. You are now ready forbthe first trial-run!

  82. To Test:

  84. Put something very, very large into the barrel, just so that it 
  85. fits 'just right'. Now, find a strong guy (the recoil will 
  86. probably knock you on your ass if you aren't careful!). Put on a 
  87. shoulderpad, earmuffs, and possibly some other protective clothing 
  88. (trust the Jolly Roger! You are going to need it!). Hold the 
  89. trigger downbforb30 seconds, hold on tight, and hit the switch. 
  90. With luck and the proper adjustments, you should be able to put a 
  91. frozed orange through 1/4 or plywood at 25 feet.
