  8.     This 'CHECKOUT' BBS distributes software for the sole purpose
  9.       of testing prior to purchase.  You've 24 hours to try the software
  10.       and determine that it is worth  purchasing, then you must  destroy
  11.       it.   The  BBS Sysop feels  that it is  unfair to  computer  users
  12.       that they are unable to evaluate software to see if it suits their
  13.       needs.  Many  users have purchased products by the way the program
  14.       'looks' on the box and have been extremely disappointed - and have
  15.       therefore wasted their money and (more important) time.  Nobody in
  16.       their right  mind would purchase a  car  without  test  driving it
  17.       first,  or  for  that  matter...purchase  clothes  without  trying
  18.       them  on, so how  can  software  vendors  expect users to  buy one
  19.       of their products without first testing it?  They will send copies
  20.       of their software to large corporations to test but seem to forget
  21.       there are also other users in the market willing to purchase their
  22.       product if it meets their needs.   This is where this checkout BBS
  23.       comes in.   This program is for evaluation only,  if you like this
  24.       product  then  go  to  your  local computer store and purchase it,
  25.       otherwise PLEASE do not USE or in anyway DISTRIBUTE this  product!
  26.       There are many advantages to purchasing this product including:

  28.       1) Technical Support: Software vendors set  up  technical  support
  29.                 lines  for  the  purpose  of  helping  their
  30.                 registered users get the  most  out  of  the
  31.                 product and help with any bug concerns, etc.
  32.                 It is to your advantage to be  able  to  use
  33.                 this (and the many features of the program).

  35.       2) Manuals:           Manuals are  a  very  important  part  of  a
  36.                 software package.  No book  or text file can
  37.                 replace the  original  manuals,  which  come
  38.                 with the product. This enables  the  user to
  39.                 get the most out of the package,  especially
  40.                 with the very complex programs of today.

  42.       3) Upgrades:          With  buying  the  original program, you are
  43.                 entitled  to  low priced or free upgrades to
  44.                 new versions, bug fixes, and 'enhancements'.

  46.       4) Legality:          Using a program  without owning a registered
  47.                 copy is illegal.

  49.       5) Control Of The     When  companies  who  create  good  products
  50.      Industry:          are  supported,  it  reinforces the need for
  51.                 good products and helps the company continue
  52.                 to create more  quality  products.   On  the
  53.                 other hand, companies who create substandard
  54.                 products have  two  options; either  improve
  55.                 their products or get out of the industry.

  57.       Until  companies come up with a better  way  of  allowing  users  to
  58.       test their products before purchasing, 'checkout' BBSs will continue
  59.       to make available products  for  your  testing.  Companies  recently
  60.       have started to head in this  direction and you can now return  some
  61.       products  to  the  company  if  you  are  not  completely  satisfied
  62.       (Norton, and a few others), but this does not remedy  the  situation
  63.       as the refund/credit takes a long time to get processed and is a BIG
  64.       hassle!   We feel that under the current software industry standards
  65.       of doing business, that evaluating software releases prior to actual
  66.       purchase is still the best solution.
