  6. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  7. ******************************************************************************
  8. This demo program requires some of the same sophisticated software used in
  9. our real programs to handle the VGA graphics and voice files.  Therefore, the
  10. minimum system requirements are:  80286 10MHz, 640K RAM, VGA, and 650K of hard
  11. disk space for the demo without voice narration, and an additional 450K for
  12. voice narration, if desired.

  15. EXISTING GIRLFRIEND SOFTWARE
  16. ******************************************************************************
  17. This demo program will not interfere with any full-blown GIRLFRIEND system you
  18. may have currently installed, even though the demo can use the same directory
  19. as you are using for GIRLFRIEND.

  22. POSSIBLE FORMATS FOR THIS DEMO

  24. This demo package comes in several different forms:
  25.         PKZip format without voice narration        GFDemo .ZIP
  26.         PKZip format voice narration add-on        GFDemoA.ZIP
  27.         PKZip format with voice narration included    GFDemoV.ZIP
  28.         LHArc format with voice narration included    GFDemoV.LZH
  29.  
  30. Typically, the PKZip format demos are found on BBSes and CompuServe, and the
  31. LHArc versions are acquired via mail order directly from us.

  34. HOW TO INSTALL - PKZIP VERSION
  35. ******************************************************************************
  36. If you have downloaded this program in a PKZip format, just PKUnzip the archive
  37. file and you can start the demo with the GFDEMO command.  You can add the voice
  38. narration at any time in the future, but you will have to add a DEVICE state-
  39. ment to your CONFIG.SYS.  See instructions below for that.  (When you overwrite
  40. the GFSCR.DAT file with the voice narration add-on, it activates the voice.)

  43. HOW TO INSTALL - LHARC VERSION
  44. ******************************************************************************
  45. If you have received this demo on diskette, there is a simple INSTALL batch
  46. file which you can execute.  However, it may be too simplistic for some users.
  47.  
  48. It contains the commands listed below.  If you want a different drive
  49. or directory, you can modify INSTALL.BAT, or simply use the manual commands
  50. which follow.  To use the INSTALL batch file, do this:
  51.

  55. Before you install the demo, you must first pick a drive and create a directory
  56. where you would like the demo to reside.  For example, to use your C: drive and
  57. create a directory called GF, you would enter this command:
  58.  
  59.                 C:
  60.                 MKDIR \GF
  61.  
  62. Then, change the default drive to your floppy disk, example:
  63.  
  64.                 A:
  65.  
  66. Now, to decompress the files into your C:\GF directory, use this command:
  67.  
  68.                 LHARC x GFDemo C:\GF\
  69.

  71. VOICE NARRATION REQUIREMENTS
  72. ******************************************************************************
  73. No matter whether your demo arrived in a PKZip file or an LHArc file, in order
  74. to use voice narration, you must do the following:
  75.  
  76. Add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS:
  77.  
  78.                 DEVICE=C:\GF\FSVPDD.SYS
  79.  
  80. Note: If you use a different drive or directory other than C:\GF, you must
  81. change C:\GF in the above commands to the directory you used.

  83. When you are finished, REBOOT your computer to activate the voice driver.

  86. RUNNING THE DEMO

  88. Then change your default drive back to C:, enter the GF directory, and run the
  89. demo program.  Use these commands:

  98. This disk contains a file called HELP.TXT, which contains general help infor-
  99. mation on Girlfriend, as well as release notes for the version currently in
  100. distribution.
