MEMO TO ALL: RE: ECM BY G.I.
Recently, General Instruments has instituted a new ECM (electronic counter-
measure), primarily to counter the Modem System. However, this ECM will
confuse other software also. Because the software users have is so varied
it is difficult to explain at this writing all the variations and how to
counter them. Suffice to say, the users are oft times left in the dark as
HOW to operate their software (chips).
This note is aimed at the PHAZER V.5.3 users.
The following channels are using the same CH. ID number 86
G1-02 ACTION S3-05 KTVT
G5-07 WGN G5-09 ESPN
S3-05 KTVT S3-09 WPIX
It is suggested the user employ this method of combatting the ECM.
Select your favourite channel of those that use the 86 id. Punch in the
code as you normally do: Go to channel, SETUP, 1, punch in the code, ENTER.
Remember what # memory bank you placed the code in (HELP).
The first code using the same id 86, that is punched in will consequently be
the first code (bank) recalled. So if you go to G5-07 it will call up the
G1-02 code (bank) because the software scans, looking for the ID # and latches
on the to the first bank placed, defaulting.
When entering codes with the PHAZER, the default bank is entered usually,
which is the first available empty bank (all 0000 ). The code may also be
placed in ANY bank.
For Example:
Go to G5-07. Hit HELP. PAGE through the bank list and note which
banks are vacant. Hit VIEW to exit. Hit SETUP, 1, enter the # of
the vacant bank. Place the correct code, hit ENTER.
If you leave the channel the return there will be a latch up; it
will default to the first channel bank the ID 86 is placed in.
Hit HELP, then select the channel bank desired. All other codes
that do not use same ID # are entered in the usual manner.
This sounds all so complicated and technical but with a little
practice you will have countered GI and their latest round of
ECM's.
One final bit: try sub-audio on any VCII or Plus channels.
