                       Breaking the News

    A question that I am often asked is "How do I tell those that I love
that I am a witch." Well, this can be a touchy subject for some people
and needs to be handled with a soft touch. The best rule of thumb for this
situation is "Patience is a vertue." Remember, the only common information
that most people have to draw from are the movies. Unfortunatley, this
type of dramatic description is not only false, but lead the general
public to picture wiccans as perverted murders, physcopaths, baby nappers,
etc. Anything but the truth, for the truth to most moviegoers would prove
to be mundane and result in poor box office sales.
    To try and explain to another the idea of wicca, one MUST have a
complete understanding of the general guidlines that we follow. To try and
explain our beliefs before you yourself understand them will just lead to
confusion on both parties part. So it would be sound for you, prior to
attempting to tell a loved one of your faith, to spend a little time
studying, meditating and reviewing what it was that brought you to the
Craft.
    Start off the conversation with somthing light, maybe a subject that
the other person can relate to and lead in small. Try to stay away from
what I call religion bashing. This will only lead to an argument of who's
religion is best. As your conversation becomes more relaxed, turn it to
more of a simular subject, a book on Witchcraft that you may have read, or
just saw on the shelf at the local bookstore. This will allow the other
person to start a "think before speak" attitude. And will allow you to see
just where the other person stands on there beliefs and how strongly they
stand with their religious ideas. Who knows, they may have been keeping a
few secrets of there own from you.
    When you have set the scene, created the mood, then comes the hardest
