  3.    The Myth of the 2600Hz Detector

  6.     Just about everyone I talk to
  7. these days about ESS seems to be
  8. scared witless about the 2600Hz
  9. detector.  I don't know who thought
  10. this one up, but it simply does not
  11. exist.  So many of you people whine
  12. about this so-called phreak catching
  13. device for no reason.  Someone with
  14. AT&T said they had it to catch phrea-
  15. kers.  This was just to scare the
  16. Blue-Boxers enough to make them quit
  17. boxing free calls.
  18.     I'm not saying ESS is without its
  19. hang-ups, either.  One thing that ESS
  20. can detect readily is the kick-back
  21. that the trunk circuitry sends back
  22. to the ESS machine when your little
  23. Press [RETURN]                  2600Hz tone resets the toll trunk. 
  24. After an ESS detects a kick-back it
  25. turns an M-F detector on and recordes
  26. any M-F tones X-mitted.

  28.    DEFEATING THE KICK-BACK DETECTOR
  29.    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  31.      As mentioned in my previous
  32. note, kick-back detection can be a
  33. serious nuisance to anyone interested
  34. in gaining control of a trunk line.
  35.      The easiest way to by-pass this
  36. detection circuitry is not really by-passing it at all, it is just letting the kick-back get detected on some other line.
  37.      This other line is your local
  38. MCI, SPRINT, or other long distance
  39. carrier (except AT&T).  The only
  40. catch is that the service you use
  41. must not disconnect the line when
  42. you hit the 2600Hz tone.
  43. Press [RETURN]                       This is how you do it:  Call
  44. up your local extender, put in the
  45. code, and dial a number in the 601
  46. area code and the 644 exchange.
  47. Lots of other exchanges work across
  48. the country, I'm sure, but this is
  49. the only one that I have found so
  50. far.  Anyway, when it starts ringing,
  51. simply hit 2600Hz and you'll hear the
  52. kick-back, (ka-chirp, or whatever).
  53. Then you are ready to dial whoever
  54. you want (conferences, inward, route
  55.  and rate, overseas, etc.) from the
  56. trunk line in operator tones!
  57. Since blowing 2600Hz doesn't make you
  58. you a phreaker until the toll equip-
  59. ment resets the line, kickback
  60. detection is the method AT&T chooses
  61. (for now).

  63. Press [RETURN]                  result of my experiments & experience
  64. and has been verified by local AT&T
  65. employees I have as acquaintances.
  66. They could only say that this is
  67. true for my area, but were pretty
  68. sure that the same idea is imple-
  69. mented across the country.

  73. Now that you know how to access a trunk
  74. line or as operators say a loop, I will
  75. tell you the many things you can do
  76. with it.

  79. sible to you by using a Blue Box.

  90. Starting Conferances:

  93. This is one the most useful attributes
  94. of blue boxing. Now the confs. are up
  95. 24 hours/day and 7 days/week and the
  96. billing lines are being billed. 
  97. Since I beleive the above is true
  98. (about the billing lines being billed)
  99. I would recommend that you never let
  100. your # show up on the conf. if you 
  101. started it, put it on a loop and then
  102. call the loop. ENOUGH BULLSHIT!!!!!
  103. Press [RETURN]                  To start the conf. dial one of these
  104. three numbers in M-F while you are on
  105. the trunk.

  111.      These #s are in L.A. and are the
  112. most watched, I do not advise using 
  113. this NPA.

  125. Once connected with one of these you
  126. will either hear a re-order, busy, or
  127. cherp. When you hear the cherp enter
  128. the billing line in M-F. I use the
  129. conf. dial- up.
  130.   A billing line example:
  131.        kp312+001+1050st
  132. You will then hear two tutes and a re-
  133. cording asking you for the # of confer-
  134. rees including yourself.  Enter a #
  135. between 20 and 30. If you ever get over
  136. 30 people on a conferance all you will
  137. hear is jumbled voices.  After the it
  138. says "Your conferance size is XX" then
  139. hit # sign.  Add Your favorite loop on
  140. and hit 6 to transfer control to it.
  141. After it says control will be transfer-
  142. ed hang up and call the other side of
  143. Press [RETURN]                  the loop, hit #sign and follow the in-
  144. structions. A bonus for conf. is to add
  145. an international # dial 1+011+CC+NUMBER
  146. pretty cool ehhh.
  147. A few extra notes.
  148.     Do not add #s that you will want to
  149.     hang up, add these through MCI or
  150.     Sprint.

  152.     You cannot blow anyone off w/2600hz
  153.     unless they are in an old X-bar or
  154.     older system.
  155.  
  156.     Many D.A. operators will stay on 
  157.     after you abuse them; you may have
  158.     to start another or at least don't
  159.     say any numbers.

  161.     Never add the tone side of a loop
  162.     onto a conf.
  163. Press [RETURN]                      
  164.     Never add more than one MCI node on
  165.     your conf.

  168. Route & Rate:

  172. Note Route & Rate and RQS perform the 
  173. same service.

  175.      R&R simply tells you route and rate info which is very valuble, ex.
  176. such as the inward routing for an ex-
  177. change in an area code.  An inward 
  178. routing will let you call her and she
  179. can do an emergency interupt for you.
  180. She can tell you how to get interna-
  181. tional operators, ect.
