- INSTALLATION:
-
- To install STATE MATE, just run the included SETUP.EXE program, using the
- File menu and Run command in the Windows Program Manager. More detailed
- installation information is located in the INSTALL.DOC file, and it is
- recommended you read this file.
-
-
- DESCRIPTION:
-
- STATE MATE version 1.0 is a Windows program which displays a map of the
- United States and Canada, and allows information to be entered and displayed
- when each state is clicked with the mouse. Simply enter your own data and
- you have a complete program with an attractive, professional map interface
- which you can sell with your data! No programming required. You can
- organize any state data for easy retrieval.
-
-
- REGISTERING STATE MATE:
-
- STATE MATE is provided to you for a free 30-day evaluation period only.
- If you continue to use it, you need to license this software directly with
- author Michael Paulick. There are 3 levels of registration, as follows:
-
- $ 29 - For personal use on one computer at a time.
-
- $ 89 - For a license to distribute or sell the registered version of
- the program with your OWN data supplied. I refer to this as
- a distribution license, and it could make you rich!
- Your data must add significant value to the product, and
- you cannot sell the program without your data. You must agree
- not to compete with Michael Paulick's selling of the interface.
- In other words, what you are buying is a license to use this
- interface as an aid to selling or distributing YOUR data.
- You must sign the statement on the order form which you print
- from the STATE MATE program or from file ORDER.FRM.
- I maintain a vigilant watch for unauthorized marketing of this
- program by those without a distribution license. I also ask all
- my users to notify me any time they see the program marketed by
- others, so that I can check the seller's license rights.
-
- $189 - For complete STATE MATE source code and the above distribution
- license. STATE MATE is written completely in Microsoft Visual
- Basic, and is well-written, completely commented, and easy to
- understand. With this source code and Microsoft Visual Basic,
- you will be able to completely customize the program to fit
- your needs.
- NOTE: I reserve the right to refuse selling the source code to anyone.
-
- I trust you to pay me for all the hard work and time I spent writing this
- program if you decide to use it. I could have "crippled" this program by
- not letting you change text in the Shareware version, but this would have
- limited your ability to fully evaluate the program. Besides, I believe
- that most people are basically honest, and don't want to steal from me.
- Please print the order form today and take a look at it. It is also
- available as file ORDER.FRM in the directory you install STATE MATE in,
- usually drive and directory C:\STATE.
-
- Your payment makes the "try before you buy" concept possible.
-
- If you decide to distribute your data, STATE MATE lets you easily turn off
- the editing feature of the program, if you so choose.
-
- When you register, you will receive the very latest version with the
- Welcome and Shareware screens REMOVED. You will also be put on my mailing
- list for notification of future updates.
-
- You will also receive a FREE evaluation copy of my NAMEBASE name/address
- database program. NAMEBASE is a sophisticated program that keeps track of
- names, addresses, phone numbers, birthdays, and notes about people or
- companies. It prints a pocket-size address book, rolodex cards, labels,
- and many reports. It will even dial the phone for you, and can be used for
- mail-merge with most word processors. You can use it to keep track of your
- customers.
-
- To register STATE MATE, print out an order form by pressing the button on
- the Shareware screen which is displayed after starting STATE MATE. Send
- a check payable to Michael Paulick at the following address:
- Michael Paulick
- PO BOX 935
- Conifer, CO 80433
- I cannot accept credit cards. Don't forget to indicate the diskette size
- you prefer (3.5 or 5.25 inch). If not specified, I will send 3.5 inch.
-
- I will rush the newest version to you, usually the next day. I sincerely
- appreciate your honesty, and I'll make you glad you did business with me.
-
- STATE MATE is copyrighted, but you may distribute the Shareware version
- freely as long as you make it clear that users are expected to pay the
- author for the program if they find it useful after a 30-day free evaluation
- period. In addition, please do not change the data in the Shareware version
- and give the changed copy to anyone else. The Shareware version of STATE
- MATE must be distributed with the supplied database unchanged.
-
- Product support will be provided by mail or via CompuServe for a minimum
- of 90 days after purchase. You can contact me on CompuServe at 70640,1614
- or on the Internet at 70640.1614@compuserve.com, or at the above address.
- If you want me to call you by phone, please invite me to call collect if
- you want to be insured that I phone instead of responding via E-mail or
- letter. I have another day-time job, and I cannot take support calls
- while I am working for another company!

- IDEAS:
- Here are just a few ideas about how you can use STATE MATE:
-
- Think of all the business opportunities that open up to you with this program.
- For example, build a database of information about golf courses in each state.
- Market it in golfing magazines or golf shops to millions of golfers.
- Golfers would buy the program to help them plan vacations, or just as a fun
- thing to show to their friends.
-
- Perhaps you already have a business which publishes information that
- can be organized by state. Many travel or vacation guides fit into
- this category. You can now offer this same data to existing customers
- in a computer program. This is guaranteed to increase sales, and all
- for the ridiculously low investment of just $89. Why wouldn't you do
- this? Your existing data is already entered into a computer, and you've
- got virtually nothing to lose. Hiring a programmer to write a similar
- program will cost you thousands of dollars, if you can find a programmer
- who has the knowledge required to write such a program.
- You can sell this computerized data as a separate product, or even just
- include a diskette with your existing book. This will allow you to
- increase the perceived value (and price) of your book, and is sure to
- generate more sales.
-
- Create a database which lists the companies in any industry, organized by
- state. Sell this database with STATE MATE at trade shows and trade
- publications for that industry. Keep the database up to date and sell
- periodic updates to your customers.
-
- You can build a database containing information on ski areas in a state.
- Skiers would love to be able to just click the mouse on a state to find
- the ski report numbers, statistics on the state's ski areas, etc.
-
- You can use STATE MATE to build a database of resorts throughout the country.
- You can sell this data to travel agents and vacationers. The STATE MATE
- interface presents this information in a professional, easy to use format.
-
- Anyone collecting data on just about anything that can be organized by
- state will find this program useful. Instead of presenting the results of
- your research in a boring paper, put it into this fun, easy-to-use program.
-
- Pilots can list information about airports in each state, or you can compile
- this information and sell it to other pilots.
-
- Keep names, addresses, phone numbers and directions for all your friends
- and relatives in each state.
-
- You can keep information about places you have visited or want to visit
- in each state.
-
- Think of what you can do with U.S. Census data! This data is available
- electronically, and can be reformatted to work with this program.
- Looking up this data by state would never be easier.
-
- A wide variety of government-supplied information can be recorded in
- STATE MATE for easy access. For example, federal and state land status
- such as National and State Forests, Parks, BLM land etc.
-
- Information from the Department of Agriculture can be recorded for each state.
- You could also compile a list of major farms and ranches throughout the
- country.
-
- You could build a database of travel-related information.
- For example, most states have phone numbers to call for state road conditions.
- Keep listings of hotels/motels, or interesting sites to visit. You could
- market this database to millions of travelers. Advertise in travel-related
- magazines.
-
- Large corporations can list each of their branches throughout the country.
-
- Think of the uses this program has in education. Children find this program
- fun to use, so it's an excellent way to teach them geography or any other
- information about the country. A teacher can use this program as the basis
- for a class project. Each student can gather information on one or two
- states, then it can all be combined into one file.
-
- Fisherman and hunters can list areas of interest in each state, or spots you
- want to return to. Hunting and fishing regulations can be listed for each
- state.
-
- Information from state fishing and wildlife agencies can be stored here.
- An example would be herd sizes or hunter success ratios for various game
- animals. You can market this data to millions of hunters and fisherman.
-
- Real estate agents who deal with relocating clients throughout the country
- can prepare a list of contacts or other relevant information in each state.
- This information can be sold to other real estate offices.
-
- Business travelers can keep a database listing relevant information about
- each state they travel to. For example, keep a list of contacts in each
- state, phone numbers of businesses, and names of good hotels and restaurants.
-
- Click on each state and province for other ideas.
-
- I'm sure you can think of many more ideas! Thanks for trying STATE MATE.
