  12. Europe.

  15. Since the UK TeX Archive is now connected to the Internet, PUBLIC
  16. account browsers can now use the  FTP  command to send files back to
  17. their home sites.
  18.  
  19. We have now installed TGV's MultiNet product, which is vastly superior
  20. to the implementation formerly used, which was DEC's UCX v1.3.  Help is
  21. available in the usual fashion; just type the command
  22. $ HELP ftp
  23. to get details; alternatively, type HELP at the FTP> prompt.

  25. Other VMS sites also running MultiNet, or a compatible product, such as
  26. Matt Madison's CRUX extension to the CMU/Tek TCP/IP product, will be
  27. pleased to find that MultiNet FTP automagically negotiates transfer of
  28. VMS files with all their structure intact.  Users sending to Unix
  29. systems should still select ASCII or BINARY as appropriate, to ensure
  30. that record-length counts are not included in the bitstream sent to
  31. their home site.

  33. Your current default directory is the root of the UK TeX Archive. The
  34. usual VMS commands are available for moving around the structure, but so
  35. also is the Unix-like  `cd'  command; this can be used with a standard
  36. VMS directory specification or with Unix-like relative movements (e.g.
  37. cd drivers/dvidis).

  39. MAIL is not available, neither is any facility for logging on to any
  40. other machine.  Many VMS commands have been curtailed or disabled in
  41. this account; the HELP files have been updated to reflect this usage.

  43. For transferring files back to your own site, use TRANSFER over X25
  44. lines. Kermit is available for those calling via a modem and dial-up
  45. line; it is specifically disabled for X25 transfer, because of the
  46. extreme degradation of service that this causes to other users.

  48. For transferring multiple files, with wild card specification, use the
  49. SEND command; see HELP SEND for further details.

  51. Internet FTP is available for sites directly connected to the Internet.
