  32. NYSERNet provides the Empire Internet Schoolhouse as an extension of its
  33. Bridging the Gap program. Bridging the Gap promotes collaboration and
  34. partnership in the educational community to meet the needs of students
  35. and educators at every level. Empire Internet Schoolhouse provides a
  36. selection of K-12 resources, projects and discussion groups from every
  37. corner of the Internet community. As new users of the Internet, teachers
  38. and students face a steep learning curve to becoming Internet
  39. navigators. Empire Internet Schoolhouse, through a simple gopher menu,
  40. addresses this "gap" in new user experience by providing useful
  41. resources for the classroom.

  43. The EMPIRE INTERNET SCHOOLHOUSE provides resources for new K-12 users.
  44. The ASSEMBLY HALL is for discussion groups and posting of current
  45. projects. The CAREER AND GUIDANCE CENTER provides access to New York
  46. State College admissions systems and a Q&A system to consider college
  47. and work transitions faced by high school students. The LIBRARY &
  48. INTERNET REFERENCE TOOLS contains reference services and Internet
  49. information. The ACADEMIC WINGS provide subject-oriented information
  50. tools, resources and projects. The SCHOOL REFORM & TECHNOLOGY PLANNING
  51. CENTER provides the information on school reform and technology
  52. planning. The EMAIL facility allows SCHOOLHOUSE users to communicate
  53. reactions and suggestions to NYSERNet. Finally, FIELDTRIPS TO OTHER
  54. SCHOOL SYSTEMS allow users to travel by "telnet" to other Internet
  55. school and educational systems.
