  18.         This utility is designed for people who laid down their cash for
  19.         an entertainment program and are frustrated with the copy
  20.         protection. The key word in that sentence is CASH- if you do not
  21.         OWN the program you have no business using this utility- delete
  22.         it now.
  23.         
  24.         Copy protection has moved from "key disks" to "Manual scanning" 
  25.         and code wheels or charts. If your computer area looks like mine
  26.         it is awash with manuals, memos, disks, and general clutter. I
  27.         prefer to pull out a manual when I need help. Some of the copy
  28.         protection schemes actually require that the user check a key
  29.         passage SEVERAL times during a play session. This is
  30.         unacceptable.

  32.         I put up with this nonsense until yesterday when I purchased 688
  33.         Attack Sub. Not only are you required to find a three letter
  34.         code several times during a play session- the method of entry is
  35.         by pressing up/down keys to go through the alphabet! I can't
  36.         TYPE THE LETTERS??? ENOUGH! So last night I broke the protection
  37.         with a two byte patch that I am making available to other 688
  38.         OWNERS.
  39.         
  40.         I was pleased with the results so I also patched Advanced Flight
  41.         Trainer which I also purchased yesterday. In due time I am going
  42.         to work my way through my other entertainment programs and make
  43.         the patches available via Freeware on BBS's.
  44.         
  45.         I want it understood that these patches are designed for LEGAL
  46.         OWNERS of the respective programs- NOT for the facilitation of
  47.         piracy. If you don't pay for the software they won't write any
  48.         more. Reward good programs with your purchase. At the same time
  49.         write to the publishers and tell them that this "manual
  50.         scanning" is STILL copy protection (contrary to the claim on the
  51.         box). A rose by any other name...
