dEPROTECT for Ultima V
There is a Ultima V deprotect available on many many boards. It may work for
some but unfortunately not for my version. Or maybe I'm just thickheaded
and couldn't follow the instructions.
Anyway this patch works (on my copy!).
To see if your copy is the same as mine get into debug and look at location
8AB0 -- it should start off DB 96 DB 8E E1 4C 98 74....... - if not you have
a different version yet! -- You might try a search function to find that string
and alter the locations in the ULTIMA.DAT file to correspond to your version.
Those familiar with debug should have no problem doing this - others probably
shouldn't attempt it in the first place.
First make a copy of your Ultima V Program disk using diskcopy -- then
put away your original!
Take a formatted blank disk and place it in drive B. Copy Dos Debug and
both Ultima.DAT and ULTIMAGO.BAT from this zip file to the disk in Drive B.
Then place your COPY of Ultima V program disk in drive A (make that your
root directory) and at the "A:" prompt, type "B:ultimago (return)" (Don't type
the quotation marks of course.
Your disk is now unprotected and the files may be copied to a hard disk,
ram disk or standard DOS disk using XCOPY.
P.S. For those of you who care about these things, the protection scheme
involves a non-standard formatting of track 6, side 0. It has 10 sectors
instead of the normal 1-9 and they are numbered 01-02-BB-03-BC-04-BD-05-BE-AA.
Normal size and normal CRC checksums.
