  4. I am DAMN sick and tired of looking through books, charts and decoder wheels!

  6. MECHWARRIOR is no exception.   The Air Force doesn't have that much security
  7. at an Air Base!  Well gang, this one is as easy to crack as an egg!  Here is
  8. exactly how to do it...
  9.  
  10. First, make a backup copy of one file called MW_MAIN.EXE  This is in case you
  11. screw up the crack and need to start over.  Next fire up your good old Norton
  12. Utilities program.  There are 24 names that have to be HEX edited.  It's very
  13. simple to do, so don't panic!    All of the names are in the file MW_MAIN.EXE

  15.              Here are the names you will be looking for:

  17.   1 - Grim Jim             9 - Duck Soup              17 - Glory Boy
  18.   2 - Renegade            10 - Red Lance              18 - Dragon Tail
  19.   3 - Snow Fire           11 - Screaming Eagle        19 - Grave Walker
  20.   4 - Black Jack          12 - Yellow Bird            20 - Red Arrow  
  21.   5 - Black Witch         13 - Slasher                21 - Silver Hawk
  22.   6 - Bad Dream           14 - Small Room             22 - Night Stalker
  23.   7 - Sakhara             15 - Mad Dog                23 - Future Guard
  24.   8 - Red Dawn            16 - Tin Man                24 - Black Baron

  26.               Write these names down or print them...

  28. The only thing that you have to do is use the Search function in Norton to
  29. save you the time of finding the names in this 176K file.  When you locate
  30. one name, there are usually two or three more right beside it.  When you get
  31. to each name, bring Norton's cursor to the left side (HEX side) of the screen
  32. with the TAB key, then simply type 00 over each letter of every name.  Keep
  33. in mind that if a name has 2 words, you must also put the 00 where the space
  34. is.   Keep a list of the names and check them off as you 00 each one of them.
  35. This way you won't miss any of them.   Make sure you use the  "Write"  option
  36. that is built into Norton when you are done with each change BEFORE you go
  37. searching for the next name....

  39. I completed this little task in less than 10 minutes, so it isn't difficult.
  40. Once you have changed the 24 names to 00,  then run MW.EXE  When the prompt
  41. for the code comes up, just press <ENTER> and you the game will start.

  43. * NOTE for degenerates:  You may also enter any vulgar word for a code and
  44. it will still run.

  46. Remember, the worst that can happen if you totally botch it up is that you
  47. will have to copy the original MW_MAIN.EXE back into the subdirectory, but
  48. any moron should be able to utilize this crack.
