  25.         This utility is designed for people who laid down their cash for
  26.         an entertainment program and are frustrated with the copy
  27.         protection. The key word in that sentence is CASH- if you do not
  28.         OWN the program you have no business using this utility- delete
  29.         it now.
  30.         
  31.         Copy protection has moved from "key disks" to "Manual scanning" 
  32.         and code wheels or charts. If your computer area looks like mine
  33.         it is awash with manuals, memos, disks, and general clutter. I
  34.         prefer to pull out a manual when I need help. Some of the copy
  35.         protection schemes actually require that the user check a key
  36.         passage SEVERAL times during a play session. This is
  37.         unacceptable.

  39.         I put up with this nonsense until yesterday when I purchased 688
  40.         Attack Sub. Not only are you required to find a three letter
  41.         code several times during a play session- the method of entry is
  42.         by pressing up/down keys to go through the alphabet! I can't
  43.         TYPE THE LETTERS??? ENOUGH! So last night I broke the protection
  44.         with a two byte patch that I am making available to other 688
  45.         OWNERS.
  46.         
  47.         I was pleased with the results so I also patched Advanced Flight
  48.         Trainer which I also purchased yesterday. In due time I am going
  49.         to work my way through my other entertainment programs and make
  50.         the patches available via Freeware on BBS's.
  51.         
  52.         I want it understood that these patches are designed for LEGAL
  53.         OWNERS of the respective programs- NOT for the facilitation of
  54.         piracy. If you don't pay for the software they won't write any
  55.         more. Reward good programs with your purchase. At the same time
  56.         write to the publishers and tell them that this "manual
  57.         scanning" is STILL copy protection (contrary to the claim on the
  58.         box). A rose by any other name...
  59.         
  60.         For a disk of all available patches send $6 to the address
  61.         below. Specify 5 1/4 or 3 1/2 format. NOTE these patches are not
  62.         guaranteed... I have only used them on the versions I own. Up-
  63.         dated program files will surely fail to patch.
