  9. Walnut Creek CDROM and Thomas Shaffer are proud to present the Space
  10. and Astronomy CDROM.  This disc is based on space and astronomy
  11. related software and images that have 6600 files in 92 categories.
  12.  
  13. This CDROM contains many programs, images and text files.
  14. To make navigating around this CDROM easier, there are several files
  15. located within the root directory.
  16.  
  17. 00_index.txt - Descriptions of all the files.
  18. 00_index.z   - Descriptions of all the files - unix compress format.
  19. 00_index.zip - Descriptions of all the files - Dos zip format.
  20. cdf.exe      - Index file keyword searcher.
  21. dirs.lst     - Listing of directories with descriptions.
  22. filename.lst - List of all filenames.
  23. filename.z   - List of all filenames - unix compress format.
  24. filename.zip - List of all filenames - Dos zip format.
  25. gds.bat      - A good gif file viewer.  Install it on your hard disc for better
  26.                performace.  (See gds docs.)
  27. go.bat       - Will Automatically Display the READ.ME file.
  28. images\      - Image directories.
  29. programs\    - Program directories.
  30. read.me      - The file you are reading now.
  31. sound\       - Sounds.
  32. text\        - Text files, unzipped for direct viewing.
  33. text_zip\    - Text files, zipped for BBS use.
  34. treeinfo.ncd - Norton Utilities (r) database for quick directory changes.
  35. view.exe     - A text file viewing program that can be used to display any
  36.                 text file.  To view the DIRS.LST in the root directory of the
  37.                     CDROM drive and typing VIEW DIRS.LST.  When run without any
  38.                     parameters this program automatically walks you through all
  39.                     the directories on the CDROM disc.  It has options for viewing
  40.                     text files, unzipping program files, and viewing image files.
  41. vpic.bat     - An excellent gif file viewer.  Install it on your hard disc 
  42.                for better performace.  (See vpic docs.)
  43. unzip.exe    - Uncompress program for ZIP files.
  44. _bbs\        - BBS index files.
  45.  
  46. Viewers are included for several different systems.  They are located in the
  47. directory ``viewers''.  If you have an msdos system with a graphics display,
  48. you can run the program ``view.exe'' and use your cursor to select images to
  49. view.  To view the images using either GDS or VPIC, you can run the program
  50. ``GDS.BAT'' or ``VPIC.BAT'' respectively.  These program are shareware.
  51. (Viewing the images on this CDROM with VPIC does not require registration.
  52. Other use does.)

  54. Due to the large number of incompatible video cards, most viewers will not work
  55. on all systems.  So if a particular viewer doesn't work with your system, try
  56. another.  Both viewers will work better and offer more colors if you install
  57. them for your video card.  You'll need to copy the files to your hard disk and
  58. select the correct initialization file for your video card.  See the respective
  59. documentation for GDS and VPIC.

  61. Amiga users can use the installed viewer in viewer\amiga\viewtek.
  62.  
  63. Mac users can use the installed viewers in viewer\mac\...
  64.  
  65. The source code and documentation for unzip.exe is in 
  66. \viewers\msdos\unz51p1.exe.

  68. Many of the programs on this disc are shareware, and require separate payment
  69. to the author of the program for continued use.  You are free to try shareware
  70. programs for a limited amount of time.  If you continue to use the program,
  71. you are expected to register the program by sending a specified amount of
  72. money directly to the author of the program.  In many cases the author will
  73. send you the most up to date version of the program and a printed manual.
