  33.                 Hi Welcome to BARNABAS Bulletin Board

  35.  The purpose of this is  to give you a guide to this and other Bulletin
  36.  Boards and the correct procedure and etiquette to use as well as a
  37.  specific guide to this Board.
  38.  1) When you log on for the first time it is highly desirable to <!>egister
  39.     on the Board this has a twofold purpose. One is to enable you to gain
  40.     extra privileges like extra time to stay on the system or have access
  41.     to the Many Message. Two you are automatically upgraded which gives
  42.     you access to other Message & File areas.
  43.  
  44.  2) Authorised SysOp's..as this implies this is an area only for Genuine 
  45.     SysOps of other Bulletin Boards and no Exceptions can be made.
  46.  
  47.  3) When entering a message area it is correct to Read the Messages in reverse
  48.     order. This is so that you do not reply to a message that has long since
  49.     been discussed and forgotten and if started again other Users may not
  50.     know what you are talking about.
  51.     You may have heard the expression "Flaming" it means basically users
  52.     having a go at each other .. On this board this will not be tolerated
  53.     and privileges will be removed and the user cocerned will only have
  54.     access to leaving messages to Me (SysOp) and I can quite easily remove
  55.     silly messages.
  56.     This is a Christian Board and EVERYONE is welcome.. if you want to be rude
  57.     and offensive you ARE NOT WELCOME.. if you want to enjoy the privileges
  58.     of this board and take an active or passive part YOU ARE WELCOME.

  60.  5) The Christian Echos are available to those that leave a message to the
  61.     Sysop saying how they came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their
  62.     Personal Saviour and Lord 
  63.  
  64.  4) General idea of Barnabas:
  65.     a) split up into Message & Files
  66.     To use the Files Areas simply choose <F>iles from the Main Menu and
  67.     select the File you want to Download.. A common problem newcomers face
  68.     is when Downloading ALWAYS ensure that the Protocols ARE THE SAME!!
  69.     ie if you choose XMODEM from the Board make sure you choose XMODEM on
  70.     your Software.. because of bad line noise and the cost of calls ZMODEM
  71.     is highly recommended as if you loose the line and the connection,when
  72.     you phone in a gain the ZMODEM can carry on from where you left off.
  73.     b) Message areas there is some 8000 lives message all over the Board
  74.     please remember to read in reverse and therefore the CURRENT messages
  75.     will appear first.. If A letter you choose does not work or you get a
  76.     message saying *** You are not Permitted   *** it indicates a private
  77.     area and a message to me will explain if that area is "Joinable" or a
  78.     100% closed Area.

  80.  6) ECHO MAIL AREA: When you have access to these areas PLEASE LOCAL CALLS are 
  81.     NOT allowed. The purpose is for LONG Distance communications in response
  82.     or initialisation of messages RELEVANT for that area. ie Do NOT send me
  83.     a message to SysOp in the IBM User area.. It would be round the UK in 
  84.     24 Hours, will cost me money and make other SysOp's annoyed that they
  85.     had to pay to be relayed to them a worthless message. So PLEASE only
  86.     genuine replies or comments & Questions in these areas.
  87.     Please NOTE Commercial Advertising is NOT allowed in ANY public Echo
  88.     Area or the use of Aliases.

  97. I choose the name Barnabas as it is a biblical name meaning son of
  98. Encouragement. With the world seemingly interested in "Successes" only
  99. I realised there are quite a few that havent made it (me included :-)
  100. Therefore the BBS Barnabas the Caring BBS was started and I hope is a
  101. source of encouragement to all of us have felt discouraged at times.
  102. This board is an inter-denominational christian BBS open to everyone
  103. who desires to use its facilities.It is run by a Sysop (System Operator)
  104. (me) John Barton, I am a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ
  105. and before realising my need of my Saviour was , like Paul , the
  106. chiefest of sinners. 
  107. I realise I am totally accepted by my Heavenly Father because
  108. of what Jesus did for me when He died for All ( and me ) at Calvary. I
  109. believe He rose from the dead and is alive TODAY!! 
  110. I am a medically retired computer engineer and should I
  111. die with my back still bad will continue to believe that the desire of
  112. God the Father that ALL may be healed, because Jesus not only "bore my
  113. sins but with His stripes I can be  healed". God is a God who keeps His
  114. word and I know His Care. I only know that one day I was lost in my sin but
  115. Jesus came into my life and gave me a real reason to live and enjoy LIFE
  116. in spite of my difficulties and I am determined to serve Him the best I
  117. can, even through this Bulletin Board. Please pray for me as I pray for
  118. everyone who contacts me through this BBS, and I hope touches God and
  119. know His Marvellous Love & Forgiveness.
  120.    It is not the belief of the Sysop to condone life style practices
  121. that I believe to be contrary to God's ideal for everyone, but to be open
  122. in my beliefs and to declare that God loves and cares for you AS YOU ARE
  123. even though what you do may be contrary to His purpose and plan for your
  124. Life. To speak out honestly what I believe is good and acceptable to God.
  125. Too often the practices/habits/weaknesses of various groups of people has
  126. stopped "christians" associating with them, I apologise for them and where
  127. I agree those things are wrong realise there is a PERSON who may be hurting
  128. and have a need that is not being meet because of our failure to seperate
  129. the individual from the habit/weakness/etc and tell them that GOD loves
  130. and cares for them. If you need help in any way I will be very happy to
  131. talk to you verbally or via the board, not to preach at you or condemn you
  132. but to tell you of the Love of God for YOU that I have experienced for
