xline[3] := ' relation to the scene, and the ''real world'' aspects. I''ve been ';
xline[4] := ' through a good many debates (or philosophical discussions if ';
xline[5] := ' you''d rather) in the past on this issue, and would like to ';
xline[6] := ' ramble on the subject here a little. ';

xline[8] := ' First off, it''s unfortunate that ''the scene'' is so slow about ';
xline[9] := ' moving into hi-rez, considering the opportunities that the ';
xline[10] := ' Internet is opening up for us. The www has given us a fantastic ';
xline[11] := ' expanse of space to decorate with art, and the internet in ';
xline[12] := ' general (taking into account our irc dcc''s and our wealth of ftp';
xline[13] := ' sites) is replacing the need for BBS''s. Ansi art is a beautiful ';
xline[14] := ' thing on a board, but the need for (and use of) BBS''s is ';
xline[15] := ' dwindling. Most of us have realized that it''s a lot cheaper to ';
xline[16] := ' subscribe to our local internet provider (or take advantage if ';
xline[17] := ' we have edu/mil/org accesses) than to pay a lot of LD calling our ';
xline[18] := ' buddies'' boards for the new packs. Inet Email mail-lists are ';
xline[19] := ' replacing the need for BBS mail-nets. Bulletin Boards will some ';
xline[20] := ' day (not so far off) become an interesting piece of telecom ';
xline[21] := ' history that we will all brag about having been in on. Heh. I ';
xline[22] := ' encourage all the artists in the scene who aren''t working in ';
xline[23] := ' vGa to start. Play around with it. Ask the vGa guys you like ';
xline[24] := ' for tips or whatever. Motivate towards hi-rez! Higher-speed ';
xline[25] := ' communication has freed us of the need for text-file graphics! ';

xline[27] := ' Next subject: The rating game. ';

xline[29] := ' Who''s the best? Who gives a shit. Well, the fact is, nobody ';
xline[30] := ' is CONSISTENTLY #1. Nobody. I could list you my favorite guys ';
xline[31] := ' in the scene, but none of them are the single BEST. I can find ';
xline[32] := ' a good prisonernumberone vGa that smokes a hastily done Borian ';
xline[33] := ' piece, then I can turn right around and pull my favorite ';
xline[34] := ' Borian piece and put it along side of anything p1 did in the ';
xline[35] := ' November ACiD pack--none of those compare. Who''s the BEST is ';
xline[36] := ' any man''s own opinion. We do some shit that rocks, then once ';
xline[37] := ' in awhile we do something a little tamer or a little rougher. ';

xline[40] := ' Speaking of P#1, I saw this pic he had in acdu1195 that had a ';
xline[41] := ' little tag on it saying "I don''t need no fucking scanner". I ';
xline[42] := ' almost rolled out of my chair. "Yes you did" was all I could ';
xline[43] := ' think. I don''t give a shit about old school principles. You ';
xline[44] := ' wanna buy me a laptop that I can take with me everywhere (seeing ';
xline[45] := ' as how I draw all fucking day) then I''ll draw on it. Til then ';
xline[46] := ' I''ll scribble my inspirations down on a grocery bag if I have ';
xline[47] := ' to, and scan ''em right in. In the *real* world (this is going ';
xline[48] := ' to be hard for some of you, since most of ''the scene'' hasn''t had ';
xline[49] := ' any real world graphics arts experience to judge by) all of the ';
xline[50] := ' tools and software and multitudes of mediums that one can find ';
xline[51] := ' are welcome in the accomplishment of a graphics project. A ';
xline[52] := ' scanner is an input device. If the artist using the scanner is ';
xline[53] := ' an artist, he''s an artist. If he incorporates a cool snip of ';
xline[54] := ' photomanipulation into the piece he''s creating to add that ';
xline[55] := ' special something to it, BRAVO, he has made what he''s making, ';
xline[56] := ' and he used the tools of the trade to do it. There are no ';
xline[57] := ' taboos when it comes to saving time in the graphics business. ';
xline[58] := ' When I worked in advertising, a client paid X amount of dollars ';
xline[59] := ' for an ad. If it took me 1 hour to create that ad, I made the ';
xline[60] := ' firm 5 times the money I''d have made them if I''d used ';
xline[61] := ' orthodox/conventional methods and taken five hours to put ';
xline[62] := ' together the same ad. ';

xline[64] := ' Next some moron wants to turn to me and tell me about how this ';
xline[65] := ' shit is art, not just graphics. Okay. I''ll play your game. If ';
xline[66] := ' it''s art, then it''s no-holds-barred. Go to a fucking art museum ';
xline[67] := ' you dumbass, count the mediums that people work in. No rule told ';
xline[68] := ' them it wouldn''t become art if they used a certain tool in their';
xline[69] := ' process. ';

xline[71] := ' But then, I''m cynical about how much "art" is being produced in ';
xline[72] := ' "the scene" to begin with. When I open my eyes and my mind to ';
xline[73] := ' what I percieve as art, I would kind of like to feel something, ';
xline[74] := ' be it emotion, another''s experiences, a sense of connection with';
xline[75] := ' the subject. I could go on. When I go through a fucking art ';
xline[76] := ' pack, I see The fucking Maxx, Evil fucking Ernie, and fucking ';
xline[77] := ' Spawn. What do I feel? Like I just partook of someone else''s ';
xline[78] := ' boredom. Big fucking deal. ';

xline[80] := ' Whatever. To close this gripe session, I''ll just say, P1, I ';
xline[81] := ' wasn''t picking on you (much), (well, ok, the scanner thing was ';
xline[82] := ' a little funny) maliciously, just pointing out an unfortunate ar-';
xline[83] := ' bitrary example. People need to forget about ''the rules'' and ';
xline[84] := ' the ''pictures they''re copying'', and the ideas that hold ';
xline[85] := ' ''the scene'' in a stagnancy that will kill it. ';
