  1.         THE EYE DETECTOR

  4. This is not a trick or a gimmick.  It is
  5. a valuable tool that can be of great
  6. assistance in your everyday life.  You
  7. can use it for entertainment purposes
  8. however.
  9.  
  10. Researchers have discovered that if you
  11. show people photographs of normal
  12. everyday items, the pupils of their eyes
  13. remain pretty much the same.  When shown
  14. sexually oriented photos of the opposite
  15. sex, their pupils would dilate
  16. dramatically.  Further research showed
  17. that whenever a volunteer was shown
  18. something that they wanted very much,
  19. the pupils would again dilate.
  20. Con-versely, when people are telling a
  21. blatant lie, the same thing happens.
  22.  
  23. You have to be watching very closely to
  24. see this happen, but a suddenly dilated
  25. pupil can tell you a lot.
  26.  
  27. How can you use this information? I hope
  28. explanation is not necessary as far as
  29. detecting lies go.  You can of course
  30. use this for negotiations, making
  31. purchases, forming partnerships etc.
  32. While it can make you more careful and
  33. is valuable, nevertheless, this is not
  34. foolproof.  You should not accuse anyone
  35. of lying unless you are positive.  This
  36. is just a tool.  It is not 100%.  Use it
  37. as an indicator only.

  39. It can also be handy in relationships.
  40. The next time you are flirting with
  41. someone, you might make mildly
  42. suggestive comments and study the eyes,
  43. watching for a sudden flare of the
  44. pupils.  Again, be careful and tactful.
  45. You don't want to be sued for
  46. harassment.
  47.  
  48. For entertainment purposes, you might
  49. use something like the following.  Pick
  50. a volunteer and seat them in front of
  51. you.  Take four blank pieces of paper or
  52. cards and draw a big dollar sign on one
  53. of them and leave the other three blank,
  54. or write something benign on them like
  55. "pen," "pencil" and "paper clip." Tell
  56. your subject that the dollar sign
  57. represents one million dollars that you
  58. have just given them.  Tell them to
  59. visualize the one thing in their life
  60. that they want more than anything.
  61. Something that they would be able to
  62. purchase with that million dollars.
  63. Make sure that they have something real
  64. in mind.  Tell them to visualize the
  65. color, to really see it in their mind's
  66. eye.  Picture it clearly.

  68. Then you instruct them to pretend that
  69. the dollar sign represents the million
  70. and it will be theirs to buy their
  71. dream, unless.  .  .  you can tell which
  72. card the dollar sign is written on.
  73.  
  74. Have someone else shuffle the cards or
  75. paper, mixing them up.  When they are
  76. handed back to your subject, they should
  77. be concealed from you.  If you are
  78. sitting at a table, your volunteer may
  79. simply hold them under the table out of
  80. your line of sight.  If you are not at a
  81. table, use a towel or tray to obstruct
  82. your vision, hiding the cards from your
  83. sight.  You MUST still be able to see
  84. your subject's eyes.  Tell them to look
  85. at the cards one at a time and to then
  86. look at you before going on to the next
  87. one.  You may have to ask them to look
  88. at one or two cards again.  When they
  89. look up, you are of course studying
  90. their pupils.  When they look up and you
  91. notice that their pupils are dilated,
  92. you know which card the dollar sign is
  93. on.  You then amaze your audience by
  94. telling them that the dollar sign is on
  95. the third card they looked at (or
  96. whichever).

  98. If there is light behind you or the room
  99. is somewhat bright, their pupils might
  100. become somewhat smaller.  This is a
  101. telltale because it tells you that the
  102. pupils were larger.  They will dilate
  103. again as the eyes adjust.

  105. When they are looking at the blank or
  106. benign cards, there will be little or no
  107. change in the eyes.  The card with the
  108. dollar sign will produce a much more
  109. noticeable response.
  110.  
  111. If you think that your subject is going
  112. to try and trick you, you might appoint
  113. a member of your audience to act as a
  114. sort of watchdog to see that your
  115. instructions are carried out.  Or to
  116. watch for any cheating on either of your
  117. parts.

  119. Practice this a few times with friends
  120. or family before trying it with an
  121. audience.  People will think that you
  122. can read minds if this is done
  123. correctly.

  125. I am not going to attempt to tell you
  126. all of the possibilities that this
  127. concept has.  Law enforcement agencies,
  128. customs officers, lawyers, personnel
  129. officers etc.  all have their own uses
  130. for this principle.  If you just
  131. remember it and use it a few times, you
  132. will be amazed at the information this
  133. will give you.  It can also give you
  134. quite a reputation.
