  20. wHAT IS A POCKET ROCKET ?
  21. -------------------------
  22. a device measuring approximately 1 3/4
  23. inches long , that when properly made
  24. will fly 4-8 feet, if properly set off.
  25. Although not a powerful device, it is 
  26. well suited to annoying your dorm-mate,
  27. or perhaps a classmate during those
  28. often recurring sessions of boredom.
  29.  
  30. Materials needed
  31. ----------------
  32. 1-packet of matches (cardboard matches,
  33.   not wooden ones)
  34. 1-pin (a small one , steal it from moms
  35.   sewing basket)
  36. 1-piece of aluminum foil , 1 square 
  37.   inch for every rocket (reynolds wrap)
  38. 1-pair of scissors (optional)
  39. 1-paper clip (optional)
  40. 1-cigarettee lighter (optional)

  44. okay so you've raided the house for all
  45. the stuff....
  46. 1) Take the pack of matches apart by
  47.    removing the little staple at the 
  48.    bottom.
  49. 2) Use the scisors to cut off a single
  50.    match from the bunch.
  51. 3) Cut out a 1 inch square of aluminum
  52.    foil and fold it in half.
  53. 4) Put the head of the match in the
  54.    center of the crease and press the
  55.    foil so it forms around the head
  56. 5) wrap the rest of the foil around the
  57.    match head as tightly and neatly as
  58.    possible.

  60. Now u have a match with the head 
  61. wrapped up in foil , with the foil
  62. coming 1/2 inch down from the head.
  63. This is the way you'd store them if you
  64. weren't going to fire them immediately.
  65.  
  66. *Note* - neatness counts , tightness
  67. counts , yes you can just rip a match
  68. out , and rip foil , but the end result
  69. won't work as well.
  70.  
  71. Preparation for launch
  72. ----------------------
  73. 1) take the pin and push it under the
  74.    foil until you feel the point start
  75.    to crush the head. Keep the pin as
  76.    close to the match as possible when
  77.    doing this.
  78. 2) Bend the paper clip to form a 45 deg
  79.    angle with the horizon , and set it
  80.    on a relatively non-flammable 
  81.    surface , pointing in the direction
  82.    you wish to fire the rocket.
  83. 3) Remove the pin from the match and
  84.    gingerly set the match on the paper
  85.    clip, being careful not to crush the
  86.    foil down (the place the pin was is
  87.   now the exhaust port).

  89. Launch
  90. ------
  91. heat the head of the match (the part
  92. covered with foil) till ignition.

  94. Notes
  95. -----
  96. neatness always counts on these buggers
  97. , always use scissors when possible.
  98. You should use a lighter instead of a
  99. match so u dont get scorched fingers.
  100. I have yet to get a 2 stage rocket to
  101. fly , if you do update the file. If all
  102. of this is too complicated for you then
  103. perhaps page 45 of 'the great 
  104. international paper airplane book' said
  105. it better...

  109.    paper match. Push straight pin up
  110.    under foil to head of match and 
  111.    remove again leaving exhaust 
  112.    channel. Place match on opened
  113.    paper clip and hold lighted match
  114.    to tip. Step back."
