  12.      This is the first of three parts in the section V series.  For those of 
  13. you who don't know this "Improvised Munitions Black Book" is a reprint of the 
  14. complete and original Special Forces loose leaf Black Books.  It is a great 
  15. book (much better then something like The Anarchist Cookbook, which is not 
  16. only out dated but also far fetched), and if you don't have it try to pick it 
  17. up somewhere.  About ninety percent of the stuff in here is quite feasible.

  21. Section V, No. 1
  22.                                 
  23.                       CHEMICAL FIRE BOTTLE 
  24.  
  25.         This incendiary bottle is self-igniting on target impact. 
  26.  
  27. MATERIALS REQUIRED    How Used                 Common Source

  34. Glass bottle with stopper (roughly 1 quart size). 
  35. Small Bottle of jar with lid. 
  36. Rag or absorbent paper (paper towels, newspaper). 
  37. String or rubber bands.

  39. PROCEDURE 
  40. --------- 
  41.  
  42.         1.  SULPHURIC ACID MUST BE CONCENTRATED.  If battery acid or other 
  43. dilute acid is used, concentrate it by boiling until dense white fumes are 
  44. given off.  Container used should be of enamelware or oven glass. 
  45.  
  46. *** CAUTION ***  Sulphuric acid will burn skin and destroy clothing.  If any 
  47. is spilled, wash it away with a large quantity of water.  Fumes are also 
  48. dangerous and should not be inhaled. 
  49.  
  50.         2.  Remove the acid from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. 
  51.  
  52.         3.  Pour gasoline into the large (1 quart) bottle until it is 
  53. approximately 2/3 full. 
  54.  
  55.         4.  Add concentrated sulphuric acid to gasoline slowly until the 
  56. bottle is filled to within 1" to 2" from top.  Place the stopper on the 
  57. bottle. 
  58.  
  59.    5.  Wash the outside of the bottle thoroughly with clear water.
  60.  
  61. *** CAUTION ***  If this is NOT done, the fire bottle may be dangerous to 
  62. handle during use. 
  63.  
  64.         6.  Wrap a clean cloth or several sheets of absorbent paper around the 
  65. outside of the bottle.  Tie with string or fasten with rubber bands. 
  66.  
  67.         7.  Dissolve 1/2 cup (100 gm) of potassium chlorate and 1/2 cup (250 
  68. cc) of boiling water. 
  69.  
  70.         8.  Allow the solution to cool, pour into the small bottle and cap 
  71. tightly.  The cooled solution should ge approx.  2/3 crystals and 1/3 liquid.  
  72. If there is more liquid that this, pour off excess before using. 
  73.  
  74. *** CAUTION *** Store this bottle separately from the other bottle.

  76. HOW TO USE
  77. ----------

  79.         1.  Shake the small bottle to mix contents and pour onto the cloth or 
  80. paper around the large bottle. 
  81.  
  82.             Bottle can be used wet or after solution has dried.  However, when 
  83. dry, the sugar - Potassium chlorate mixture is very sensitive to spark of 
  84. flame and should be handled accordingly.

  86.         2.  Throw or launch the bottle.  When the bottle breaks against a hard 
  87. surface (target) the fuel will ignite.

  91.  
  92.                   IGNITER FROM BOOK MATCHES
  93.  
  94.         This is a hot igniter made from paper book matches for use with 
  95. molotov cocktail and other incendiaries. 
  96.  
  97. Material Required
  98. -----------------
  99.         Paper book matches.
  100.         Adhesive or friction tape.
  101.  
  102. Procedure
  103. ---------
  104.  
  105. 1.  Remove the staple(s) from match book and separate matches from cover.
  106.  
  107. 2.  Fold and tape one row of matches.
  108.  
  109. 3.  Shape the cover into a tube with striking surface on the inside and tape.  
  110. Make sure the folded cover will fit tightly around the taped match heads.  
  111. Leave cover open at opposite end for insertion of the matches 
  112.  
  113. 4.  Push the taped matches into the tube until the bottom ends are exposed 
  114. about 3/4 in. (2 cm). 
  115.  
  116. 5.  Flatten and fold the open end of the tube so that it laps over about 1 in. 
  117. (2-1/2 cm); tape in place. 
  118.  
  119. Use With Molotov Cocktail
  120. -------------------------
  121.  
  122.         Tape the "match end tab" of the igniter to the neck of the molotov 
  123. cocktail. 
  124.  
  125.         Grasp the "cover end tab" and pull sharply or quickly to ignite.

  127. General Use
  128. -----------
  129.  
  130.         The book match igniter can be used by itself to ignite flammable 
  131. liquids, fuse cords and similar items requiring hot ignition. 
  132.  
  133. *** CAUTION ***  Store matches and completed igniters in moistureproof 
  134. containers such as rubber of plastic bags until ready for use.  Damp or wet 
  135. paper book matches will not ignite.

  140.                MECHANICALLY INITIATED FIRE BOTTLE
  141.  
  142.         The mechanically initiated Fire Bottle is an incendiary device which 
  143. ignites when thrown against a hard surface. 
  144.  
  145. MATERIALS REQUIRED
  146. ------------------
  147.  
  148. Glass jar or short neck bottle with a leakproof lid or stopper.
  149. "Tin" can or similar container just large enough to fit over the lid of the jar.
  150. Coil spring (compression) approximately 1/2 the diameter of the can and 1 1/2 
  151. times as long.
  152. Gasoline
  153. Four (4) "blue tip" matches
  154. Flat stick or piece of metal (roughly 1/2" x 1/16" x 4")
  155. Wire or heavy twine
  156. Adhesive tape 
  157.  
  158. PROCEDURE
  159. ---------
  160.  
  161.         1. Draw or scratch two lines around the can - one 3/4" (19 mm) and the 
  162. other 1 1/4" (30 mm) from the open end. 
  163.  
  164.         2. Cut 2 slots on opposite sides of the tin can at the line farthest 
  165. from the open end.  Make slots large enough for the flat stick or piece of 
  166. metal to pass through. 
  167.  
  168.         3. Punch 2 small holes just below the rim of the open end of the can.
  169.  
  170.         4. Tape blue tip matches together in pairs.  The distance between the 
  171. match heads should equal the inside diameter of the can.  Two pairs are 
  172. sufficient. 
  173.  
  174.         5. Attach paired matches to second and third coils of the spring, 
  175. using thin wire. 
  176.  
  177.         6. Insert the end of the spring opposite the matches into the tin can.
  178.  
  179.         7. Compress the spring until the end with the matches passes the slot 
  180. in the can.  Pass the flat stick or piece of metal through slots in can to 
  181. hold spring in place.  This act as a safety device. 
  182.  
  183.         8. Punch many closely spaced small holes between the lines marked on 
  184. the can to form a striking surface for the matches.  De careful not the 
  185. seriously deform can. 
  186.  
  187.         9. Fill the jar with gasoline and cap tightly.
  188.  
  189.         10. Turn can over and place over the jar so that the safety stick 
  190. rests on the lid of the jar. 
  191.  
  192.         11. Pass wire or twine around the bottom of the jar.  Thread ends 
  193. through holes in can and bind tightly to jar. 
  194.  
  195.         12. Tape wire or cord to jar near the bottom.
  196.  
  197. HOW TO USE
  198. ----------
  199.  
  200.         1. Carefully withdraw flat safety stick.
  201.  
  202.         2. Throw jar at hard surface.
  203.  
  204. *** CAUTION *** 
  205.  
  206. DO NOT REMOVE SAFETY STICK UNTIL READY TO THROW FIRE BOTTLE.
  207.  
  208.         The safety stick, when in place, prevents ignition of the fire bottle 
  209. if it should accidentally be broken.
