  24. viruses.  I got the ftp addr for the Macintosh virus archives but
  25. can't locate the information for the other archives.  Is this
  26. information stored somewhere?  I would like to get the archives.

  37. The new version V26 of VIRUSCAN can now identify the FuManchu and the
  38. Traceback (3066) viruses.  No reports of the 3066 in the States yet,
  39. but sure to come.  The new version is available on HomeBase - 408 988
  40. 4004.

  53. This posting is the introduction to the "official" anti-viral archives
  54. of virus-l/comp.virus.  With the generous cooperation of many sites
  55. throughout the world, we are attempting to make available to all
  56. the most recent news and programs for dealing with the virus problem.
  57. Currently we have sites for Amiga, Apple II, Atari ST, IBMPC and
  58. Macintosh microcomputers, as well as sites carrying research papers
  59. and reports of general interest.  We don't yet have a site dedicated
  60. to the "big boys", but are on the look.  Volunteers welcome.
  61.  
  62. If you have general questions regarding the archives, you can send
  63. them to this list or to me.  I'll do my best to help.  If you have
  64. an archive site and would like to volunteer your site (and are in
  65. a position to do so! :-), send me a message.  Also, if you have a
  66. submission for the archives, you can send it to me or to one of the
  67. persons in charge of the relevant sites.

  69. I have completed my research here at Iowa State and will soon be
  70. moving on.  I'll keep the list updated as to my whereabouts.
  71. (I *do* plan on having net access at my next job! :-)

  73. This round of announcements introduces Simtel to the IBMPC side
  74. of our archives.  With the mail-based service many other sites provide
  75. for the Simtel archives, this should provide access to the archives
  76. to many "Bitnet-bound" folks out there.
  77.  
  78. If you have any corrections to the lists, please let me know.
  79. It appears I completely fumbled the Mac listings last time.  The
  80. list should be correct now.

  439. It's about time I posted an announcement of some of the anti-viral
  440. programs I've collected for the Amiga archives.  To find an archive
  441. site near you, check my earlier posting to this list of all the
  442. archive sites cooperating with virus-l/comp.virus.  Here are a few
  443. of the recent additions.  (However, not all of these are "new"
  444. programs---just programs I've recently found.)
  445.  
  446. bootback.arc
  447.         A program to backup boot blocks.  Includes source.  This
  448.         is worth getting, if only to read the comments in the
  449.         source code.
  450.  
  451. bootune.arc
  452.         The program installs a boot block which plays a tune each
  453.         time you boot.  If the song gets messed up, you should
  454.         suspect something wrong with the boot sector.
  455.  
  456. clkdoct3.arc
  457.         This program will fix the "clock virus".  I'm fairly certain
  458.         there is no such virus, but crashes and errant programs can
  459.         affect the battery backed clock making it stop or run incredibly
  460.         fast.  This program will reset the clock mode.  (AmigaDOS 1.3's
  461.         "setclock" has this feature reset feature built-in.)
  462.  
  463. crc.zoo
  464.         This program will generate CRCs for any number of files,
  465.         or will check the CRCs against a prior list.  The author
  466.         wrote it to verify recoverable RAM drives, disk copies
  467.         and file transfers.  However, it also works well as a virus
  468.         checker.  Includes a utility to generate a list of files
  469.         with full path names.
  470.  
  471. guard.arc
  472.         The guardian is a resident program to check your system
  473.         at reboots.  It is dormant at other times.  Includes a
  474.         version that can be patched into Kickstart.  Subsequent
  475.         releases are commercially available from Transactor.
  476.  
  477. vrstrp.arc
  478.         This program should be included as the first command in
  479.         your startup-sequence.  It simply checks its size, and
  480.         reports any difference.  This will catch any infection
  481.         by the (current) IRQ virus.
  482.  
  483. xboot.zoo
  484.         This program will take a file (assumed to be a capture
  485.         of a boot block) and convert it into an executable program.
  486.         After this, you can use your favorite debugger on the
  487.         virus.

  501. It's about time I posted an announcement of some of the anti-viral

  509.         2 oldies, plus 2 "new" programs. Includes Chk4Bomb and BombSqad,
  510.         as well as WPHD and FPHD.  The latter two write/format protect
  511.         your hard drive with a TSR.
  512.  
  513. chklharc.arc
  514.         Checks self-extracting LHarchives for potential bombs.  A batch
  515.         file can be included to automatically execute when archive is
  516.         extracted.  Now if that batch file included FORMAT C:...
  517.  
  518. chkup35.arc
  519.         Version 3.5 of CheckUP.  Performs a "randomized" CRC check
  520.         of your files.  If nothing else, get this for the five pounds
  521.         of documentation.  :-)
  522.  
  523. dprot102.arc
  524.         TSR to protect drives.  Update to DProtect.arc.  No source.
  525.  
  526. dvir1701.exe
  527.         Detects and removes the 1701 virus from .COM files.
  528.  
  529. epw.arc
  530.         Password protect executables (?? - no docs).

  532. f-prot.arc
  533.         This package includes a LOT of different utilities to aid in
  534.         fighting viruses.  There are programs to check memory, check
  535.         the boot block, check files, lock files, lock drives, etc.
  536.         Also included is a driver to put into your config.sys file.
  537.         This release is a beta-test version.

  540.         TSR to protect system from Friday 13th and April 1st viruses.

  543.         VERY simple protection against Lehigh.

  557.         "vital" portion of each file to determine its integrity.

  564.         Checksums OS files.

  573.         Program to scan an entire disk and determine if any files
  574.         are infected with a virus.  This is version 0.3v19, which
  575.         is aware of 19 viruses but still has some bugs.

  577. vlist01d.arc
  578.         Well, in spite of the fact that it's not yet "done" I've decided
  579.         to distribute my index of the anti-viral archives.  The file is
  580.         a DeVice Independent (.dvi) file produced as the output of TeX.
  581.         You will need a driver or previewer to use the file.  At the
  582.         moment, the chances of a plain-text version seem slim.  If there
  583.         is demand, I could also make a PostScript version available.
  584.         This version only covers IBMPC programs and IBMPC documents.
