  48. Components List -
  49.
  50. 1 4047B IC (about 25p)
  51. 2 ZTX 300 transistors (about 14p each)
  52. 1 0.01uF ceramic disc capacitor (about 5p)
  53. 1 10K resistor (about 2p)
  54. 1 100 ohm resistor  (about 2p)
  55. 1 80 ohm resistor (about 2p)
  56. 1 6.2 ohm resistor (about 2p)
  57. 1 10x24 veroboard (about 40p)
  58. 1 Miniature Loudspeaker (about 90p)
  59. 1 Push to connect switch (about 40p)
  60.
  61. Total cost 2.20
  62.
  63. Extras -
  64.
  65. 1 blue coloured box (spray this pink to conceal purpose of device)
  66. 1 9v battery
  67.
  68. Construction -
  69.
  70. The device is very simple to construct and can be made small enough
  71. to fit onto a 10x24 veroboard.
  72.
  73. Note:  ZTX 300 Transistor
  74.
  75.        / collector
  76. base !/
  77.      !\
  78.        \ emitter
  79.
  80. How the Device Works -
  81.
  82. The three resistors and the capacitor set the frequency.
  83. If the capacitor is 0.1uF then the resistor value can be calculated
  84. in the following way:
  85.
  86. R = 23000000
  87.     ________
  88.
  89.     frequency
  90.
  91. So, the resistor value for 2600hz would be:
  92.
  93. R = 23000000      = 8846.15 Ohms (this is no good, however because it
  94.     ________        must be more than 10K)
  95.
  96.     2600
  97.
  98. The frequency that the 4047B outputs is then amplified by the two
  99. transistors(a darlington pair) before being put through the loudspeaker.
  100.
  101. Using the Device -
  102.
  103. 1) Dial a long-distance unobtainable number.
  104. 2) Hold the speaker against the phone microphone.
  105. 3) Send the 2280hz tone by holding the switch down on the device.
  106. 4) Pulse/Tone(exchange dependent)dial the exchange number.
  107. 5) Dial number to connect to.
  108.
  109. For more information on this see 'phreak' on 0943 817010 (24 hours)
