  1. A young man lives in a place where the word "I" does not 
  2.  
  3. have meaning. It is a society where there are no 
  4.  
  5. individuals. It is, however, a place where you strive to 
  6.  
  7. serve your brothers. Equality 7-2521 was taught from birth 
  8.  
  9. that the individual is not important. He is in a crazed 
  10.  
  11. society where the only form of government is collectivism. 
  12.  
  13. Equality, at age 21, has absolutely no freedom. He is a 
  14.  
  15. a strong, tall young man who stands about six feet. However, 
  16.  
  17. in this society, anyone who is six feet tall was considered 
  18.  
  19. to be evil. His dream of going to the House of Scholars 
  20.  
  21. is lost and he is sent to the Hose of Street Sweepers 
  22.  
  23. instead. Here the rules are very strict. He is not allowed 
  24.  
  25. to laugh or sing for any reason. These are a couple of 
  26.  
  27. hardships that Equality has to face so far in this mixed up 
  28.  
  29. society. His troubles get greater and greater until finally 
  30.  
  31. he does something about it. 
  32.  
  33. All through his life, Equality thinks he is not capable 
  34.  
  35. of accomplishing anything. Through time though, he discovers 
  36.  
  37. that he is capable of doing many things by himself and more 
  38.  
  39. importantly that he is an individual. When he is in the 
  40.  
  41. tunnel, he discovers a light. This provides him with the 
  42.  
  43. confidence that he is able to do things. Other experiences, 
  44.  
  45. such as falling in love with Liberty and seeing his 
  46.  
  47. reflection in the pond also help him to believe in himself as 
  48.  
  49. a strong individual. 
  50.  
  51. Equality later realizes that he has commited sins as he 
  52.  
  53. was growing up. He thinks by showing his invention to the 
  54.  
  55. House of Scholars that he would be forgiven for his 
  56.  
  57. wrongdoings. He hopes to show his invention to society and 
  58.  
  59. find a way into the House of the Scholars. He also wants to 
  60.  
  61. prove that being tall does not make you an evil individual. 
  62.  
  63. He feels that he has sinned because he was sent to the Palace 
  64.  
  65. of Corrective Detention when he did not reveal where he has 
  66.  
  67. been. He wishes to be forgiven for being sent there. Even 
  68.  
  69. though entering the tunnel is against the law, he feels that 
  70.  
  71. he is going to discover things that would improve the society 
  72.  
  73. that he is living in. 
  74.  
  75. Equality tries to get the House of Scholars to accept 
  76.  
  77. him for the last time. He finds out when and where they are 
  78.  
  79. going to meet and devises a plan. He decides to escape from 
  80.  
  81. the Palace of Corrective Detention and go to where the 
  82.  
  83. meeting is being held. 
  84.  
  85. He arrives at the Council of Scholars and look at him in 
  86.  
  87. astonishment. The members are afraid at first because they 
  88.  
  89. do not know exactly what Equality is presenting to them. 
  90.  
  91. After they realize what it is that Equality is showing them, 
  92.  
  93. they are very insulted that a mere street sweeper was 
  94.  
  95. belittling their intelligence as Council members. 
  96.  
  97. Upon hearing that his idea is rejected, he leaps out the 
  98.  
  99. window and runs to the Uncharted Forest where no man 
  100.  
  101. survives. He finds out that Liberty has followed him into 
  102.  
  103. the forest. They come together and find an abandoned house. 
  104.  
  105. They enter it and see things that they have never seen 
  106.  
  107. before. They find clothes, 2 beds in one room, and one thing 
  108.  
  109. that shocked them the most, a mirror. After looking at the 
  110.  
  111. mirror, he now knows for sure that he is an individual. He 
  112.  
  113. now understands that the word "I" that he had learned from 
  114.  
  115. the manuscripts of the Unmentionable Times has meaning. He 
  116.  
  117. knows that he lives for himself and not for others. He 
  118.  
  119. realizes that he is his own self and he determines his own 
  120.  
  121. fate. He then changes his name to Promethus which is a Greek 
  122.  
  123. God who stole the light of the 600's and gave it to man. 
  124.  
  125. Promethus had suffered just as Equality had, and Equality 
  126.  
  127. admired him very much and chose his name to be his own. 
  128.  
  129. Liberty also changed her name. Equality gave her the name 
  130.  
  131. Gaea after the Greek Goddess who was the mother of earth and 
  132.  
  133. all the God's. Gaea becomes pregnant and they both decide to 
  134.  
  135. raise their child as an individual and to never let it 
  136.  
  137. experience the hardships they had faced in the crazed society 
  138.  
  139. of Collectivism. 
  140.  
  141. Equality makes it his duty to rescue the other friends 
  142.  
  143. he had left behind. He feels that they deserve the same 
  144.  
  145. freedom that he is now experiencing. He plans to "save all 
  146.  
  147. men and women whose spirit has not been killed within them 
  148.  
  149. and suffer under the yoke of brothers." Equality wants to 
  150.  
  151. bring his friends to his fortress and start over a new 
  152.  
  153. beginning in which the dreadful word "we" will never again 
  154.  
  155. have meaning.
