RUNDisk Pro allows you to work with your disks in a way never before imagined on your 64. From formatting to copying, renaming to deleting, undisk makes everyday disk chores the most enjoyable aspect of the day.
Getting Underway
Load RUNDisk Pro from Menu 64. When the program begins, the disk devices will be polled. You will be prompted to turn the devices off then on. This is not necessary; all it does is identify the drive types, but it has no effect on the programs functions. To bypass that prompt entirely, change the 3 in line 50 of RUNDisk Pro to a 6. You will be prompted once, but no more after that.
Once the program is run, the screen switches to a blue and white 52 column graphics mode. The top row of the screen is the main menu. Just below this is the current device line, which displays the current device in use. Directly below this is the file data, which consists of filenames, filetypes, and file size in bytes.
On the right of this section is the disk information block. Don't worry if the "1541" drive type doen't change when using a 1581 or 1571; this information is to let you know the drive is recognized by RUNDisk Pro. Various statistics about the current drive are also displayed in this section.
The Disk Functions
Along the top row of the screen is the menu with a bar that shows the current function in reverse. Pressing the < and > keys (no shift necessary) moves the highlight bar. Pressing Return selects the highlighted function. The first menu function is Device, a command that sets the current device number. Use the < and > keys to select the device, and press Return to accept. The disk directory is refreshed, along with the disk statistics.
The second menu function is Select, which is the heart of RUNDisk Pro. This option allows you to select files. Use the < and > keys to scroll through the files, and press the space bar to toggle their selection. Hit the back arrow (_) key to return to the menu.
The next command in the menu is Copy. This function allows for three different types of file copying: Device to device, disk to different disk (same device), and disk to same disk. Follow the prompts, and you will find that copying is easier than ever before on your computer.
The fourth function is Delete, which erases all selected files. You're asked if you wish to be prompted before each erasure. After answering the question, the files will be deleted (with a prompt first, if selected). The Rename function changes the filenames of selected files. Before each file is renamed, you will be asked to type in the new filename. Enter the filename, and press Return.
By selecting Format, you can format disks quickly. You will be asked to enter a diskname and ID. Once done, insert the disk to be formatted, press a key, and the disk will be formatted.
The final menu selection is Quit. This returns you to Basic, but you are only a SYS 832 or SYS 32768 away from returning to RUNDisk Pro. Upon exiting, if the cursor is not visible, just change the color to black by pressing Control/1, and it will reappear.
