INTRODUCTION
************
Astro-World 2.2 is an Astrological program for Windows 3.1 with print
and screen evaluations for Radix-, Synastry- and Transit Horoscopes. The
printed natal chart evaluation consists of about 25 pages. Six different
House-systems are included: Koch, Placidus, Regiomontanus, Campanus,
Vehlow, as well as Equal-House. Astro-World is capable of the following
features:
* Radix-Horoscope, on-screen and printer (25-30 pages)
* Synastry-Horoscope (about 5 pages)
* Transit-Horoscope (10-20 pages)
* An integrated data-base for people and places. Both data-bases
can be expanded to around 2.1 billion entries.
* The included database of places has over 2200 localities.
Additional location databases are available, sorted by country,
and by state for the USA (a total 150,000 places worldwide).
* Up to ten Horoscopes can be displayed simultaneously in different
windows on the screen.
* Display windows also include a Legend, an Aspectarium, and chart data.
* The chart, table and font can be sized or adapted individually in
each of the above mentioned windows.
* An Aspect-toolbox allows for switching any aspect on and off
interactively. The result is dynamically shown in the Horoscope chart.
* The printed evaluation may be set with any available font, and in any
size. Headings, body text, aspects, planets and signs may be assigned
various colors. Therefore, with a color-printer at your disposal, you
can design your evaluations and graphics to be as colorful as desired.
* If you don't like the shape of the chart, it can be changed--even
including the width of the lines for the circle and aspects.
The Professional Version additionally contains:
* The provision to add your own texts to the evaluation database and use
these texts together, or instead of Astro-Worlds'.
* Text output can be redirected to a file, for structure manipulation in
a Windows Wordprocessor (ASCII or RTF format).
* The Copyright-line with our names is replaced by "License: <User's
Name>" providing the explicit right to sell the horoscope-printouts.
This program is not only targeted at Astrologers, but also for people
who prefer to deal with Astrology in a less serious way! If you just want
to print horoscopes for you and your friends, this program could be the
the one!
Even for the serious Astrologer, this program in its present version
might leave a few wishes unfulfilled. However, you will quickly note the
numerous efforts made to improve the present version in comparison to its
predecessors--especially regarding the professional version. Some of the
recognized items for future addition are Directions, Progressions, and a
planetary clock. We will try to develop this program in a way that both
groups of potential users become happier and happier as time goes by,
particularly in the Professional Version.
Many people will realize that this program offers a great opportunity
make money by selling horoscopes. It is not unusual to ask for $25.00 and
the professional quality output from Astro-World should more than support
this.
Language Versions
*****************
The English and German Versions of Astro-World 2.2. and the French
version 2.1 is currently available. As of 10/95, the Spanish and Italian
version are nearly complete. Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Polish, Danish,
Turkish, Slovenian, Croatian and Serbian versions are currently being
translated.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
*******************
The program was developed on an Compac 90MHz Pentium with 32MByte RAM,
17" VGA-screen, Postscript-Laser-printer and HP-DeskJet 560C under
Windows 3.1 and later Windows 95. Astro-World 2.2 will run on every (DOS)
Computer equipped with Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. To obtain a clear
graphic image, a VGA display of at least 14 inches is required.
The use of a Laser-printer or HP-DeskJet 5__C will provide excellent
Printout-quality. Often, the resulting quality of a matrix-printer is
highly dependent on the abilities of the installed driver. Alas, we have
experienced some problems with certain drivers printing the
Horoscope-chart. In such cases, our advice would be to ensure you have
the latest driver. Alternatively, try different fonts and sizes.
INSTALLATION
************
The complete Package is delivered on three 3-1/2" Diskettes, labeled
"Setup- Disk", "Disk 2" and "Disk 3". If you downloaded the files, make
sure that they are extracted and copied to three diskettes. Alternatively
you can unpack the files to a temporary directory where the files reside
in Sub- Directories named Disk1, Disk2 and Disk3. For Example: Unpack the
files belonging to the Setup-Disk to C:\Temp\DISK1, the files for the
second disk to C:\Temp\DISK2 etc.
Prior to installation: If you already have an "Astro" font installed from
another Astrology package, you may need to uninstall that font, back it
up and remove it from your font directory. (Note that the this font was
the first bit-map and outline font for the PC, and has been in use since
1986.)
Now, follow the Setup-Instructions in the file: AWINSTALL.TXT
The AstroWorld on-line help file (Astro.HLP), contains installation and
troubleshooting details. Simply click on INFO, then Help, for
information.

PROBLEMS / ERRORS
*****************
If you encounter any Problems with the Program, please refer to the
chapter "Known Problems / Troubleshooting" in the Help-System. It is a
compendium of many questions asked by many users during the last two
years. Thus, one might say that it contains a treasury of knowledge about
problems to date. According to my experience, the probability of finding
a solution here is very high!
SHAREWARE VERSION
*****************
You are hereby licensed to: use the Shareware Version of the software for
a 30 day evaluation period; make as many copies of the Shareware version
of this software as you wish; give exact copies of the original Shareware
version to anyone; and distribute the Shareware version of the software
and documentation in its unmodified form via electronic means. There is
no charge for any of the above.
You are specifically prohibited from charging, or requesting donations,
for any such copies, however made; and from distributing the software
and/or documentation with other products (commercial or otherwise)
without prior written permission, with one exception: Shareware Disk
Vendors are permitted to redistribute Astro-World 2.2, subject to the
conditions in this license, without specific written permission.
Unregistered use of Astro-World after the 30-day evaluation period is in
violation of copyright laws.
EVALUATION AND REGISTRATION
***************************
This is not free software. This license allows you to use this software
for evaluation purposes without charge for a period of 30 days. If you
use this software after the 30 day evaluation period a registration fee
of US$ 65 (ú 43) is required. Please see ORDERxx.TXT for details how to
pay in your local currency.
One registered copy of Astro-World 2.2 may be dedicated to a single
person who uses the software on one or more computers or to a single
workstation used by multiple people.
DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
***********************
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying
it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are
expected to register. Individual programs differ on details -- some
request registration while others require it, some specify a maximum
trial period. With registration, you get anything from the simple right
to continue using the software to an updated program with a printed
manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both
cases, there are good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in
the method of distribution. The author specifically grants the right to
copy and distribute the unregistered software, either to all and sundry
or to a specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is
low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee
-- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.
Astro-World 2.2 is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
essence of "user- supported" software is to provide personal computer
users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you
find this program useful and continue to use Astro-World 2.2 after a
reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment. The
registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at any
one time. You must treat this software just like a book. An example is
that this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely
moved from one computer location to another, so long as there is no
possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used at
another. It is just the same as a book cannot be read by two people at
the same time.
Commercial users of Astro-World 2.2 must register and pay for their
copies of Astro-World 2.2 Professional within 30 days of first use or
their license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by
contacting the Author. You are encouraged to pass a copy of Astro-World
2.2 along to your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to
register their copy if they find that they can use it.

===== Installation =====================================
Astro-World Installation
To install Astro-World, run windows. It is recommended that no
other programs are running while the installation takes place,
which is just good practice.
Insert Setup disk #1 into the floppy drive and from the Program
Manager, click File and then Run. Type A:\Setup (or B:\Setup if
you using the B: drive). The setup will ask if you wish to
install the software on C:\ASTRO22E (you can type in the drive and
directory of your choice here). Click OK and insert disk #2
when asked to do so.
After installing the program, it is absolutely necessary to
integrate the Astro-Font into the list of installed fonts:
It contains the symbols of the Zodiacal Signs and the Planets.
If you forget to install this font, you'll find ordinary letters
instead of Planets and Zodiacal Signs on your print-out!
To install the Astro font, proceed as follows: If you are still using
Windows 3.1, Start the Control Panel out of the Windows Program Manager.
As Windows 95 user you click on the Start button and choose "Settings"
and "Control Panel"
1 Choose the menu-item Fonts
2 Click the button Add
3 Choose the file, from the directory in which you have installed
Astro World (the default is C:\ASTRO22E).
4 If you have chosen the correct directory, the desired font:
Astro (TrueType) appears in the upper box under List of fonts.
Click on Select All and then OK.
5 The font will be installed and displayed in the font window.
6 The installation of Astro-Font is complete. Finally, click
on Close.
That's it! You will find a significant amount of information in
the Help file (click on Help from within Astro-World). Please
note that all of the text and Help files are being processed to
accommodate US-English and will be re-released for version 2.2.
Late notes: Old versions (before Mar 1, 1993) of SMARTDRV.SYS
default to enable write-cache. This problem is not limited to
AstroWorld. This can result in ASTRO.INI and database entries
not being written to the disk properly and a loss of data if
anything goes wrong. Recommendation: Update SMARTDRV.SYS, or
disable the Write-cache with the option /X (SMARTDRV.SYS /X).
Including additional Databases
In order to integrate additional databases you should proceed
as follows:
1) Put the diskette into floppy-disk drive A:
2) Select the menu-item File, then, Include Additional Locations.
3) Select the database of locations <FILE.ASC> and confirm your
selection with OK.
The procedure may take several minutes. In case you are familiar
with DOS, there is a faster method:
- Copy the file from the diskette into a temporary directory on
your hard-disk-drive (or better still a RAM-drive if you have
set one up).
- Select the menu-item Include Additional Locations.
- Now the program will complain about there being no diskette in
drive A.
- Select Cancel. Now you will be asked for the file-name. Select
the path and filename on your hard-disk-drive.
BBS-Distribution
****************
The program is also avilable as BBS-Version.
Astro-World is not directly executable from CD-Rom as it makes use of
read-writable databases.
However Installation from a CD-ROM is quite simple. Just copy the disks
in three appropriate subdirecories on the CD-ROM like
\AW22E\DISK1 and \AW22E\DISK2 and \AW22E\DISK3
If you have any questions, please ask the author:

===== About VENDINFO Files =============================
Each VENDINFO.DIZ file contains extensive information about a product.
This "human-readable" section is followed by a compressed data record
useable by automated tools. The data record allows BBSes and other
distributors to automate package handling, and provides users with a
wealth of product information. VENDINFO tools (free viewer for users,
free or inexpensive processors for distributors, editors for authors)
are available from many BBSes, disk vendors, and other sources.
