  75. INTRODUCTION
  76. ************
  77. Astro-World 2.2 is an Astrological program for Windows 3.1 with print
  78. and screen evaluations for Radix-, Synastry- and Transit Horoscopes. The
  79. printed natal chart evaluation consists of about 25 pages. Six different
  80. House-systems are included: Koch, Placidus, Regiomontanus, Campanus,
  81. Vehlow,  as well as Equal-House. Astro-World is capable of the following
  82. features:
  83.  
  84. *  Radix-Horoscope, on-screen and printer (25-30 pages)
  85. *  Synastry-Horoscope (about 5 pages)
  86. *  Transit-Horoscope (10-20 pages)
  87. *  An integrated data-base for people and places. Both data-bases
  88.    can be expanded to around 2.1 billion entries.
  89. *  The included database of places has over 2200 localities.
  90.    Additional location databases are available, sorted by country,
  91.    and by state for the USA (a total 150,000 places worldwide).
  92. *  Up to ten Horoscopes can be displayed simultaneously in different
  93.    windows on the screen.
  94. *  Display windows also include a Legend, an Aspectarium, and chart data.
  95.  
  96. *  The chart, table and font can be sized or adapted individually in
  97.    each of the above mentioned windows.
  98. *  An Aspect-toolbox allows for switching any aspect on and off
  99.    interactively. The result is dynamically shown in the Horoscope chart.
  100. *  The printed evaluation may be set with any available font, and in any
  101.    size. Headings, body text, aspects, planets and signs may be assigned
  102.    various colors. Therefore, with a color-printer at your disposal, you
  103.    can design your evaluations and graphics to be as colorful as desired.
  104. *  If you don't like the shape of the chart, it can be changed--even
  105.    including the width of the lines for the circle and aspects.

  107. The Professional Version additionally contains:
  108. *  The provision to add your own texts to the evaluation database and use
  109.    these texts together, or instead of Astro-Worlds'.
  110. *  Text output can be redirected to a file, for structure manipulation in
  111.    a Windows Wordprocessor (ASCII or RTF format).
  112. *  The Copyright-line with our names is replaced by "License: <User's
  113. Name>" providing the explicit right to sell the horoscope-printouts.

  115. This program is not only targeted at Astrologers, but also for people
  116. who prefer to deal with Astrology in a less serious way! If you just want
  117. to print horoscopes for you and your friends, this program could be the
  118. the one!
  119.  
  120. Even for the serious Astrologer, this program in its present version
  121. might leave a few wishes unfulfilled. However, you will quickly note the
  122. numerous efforts made to improve the present version in comparison to its
  123. predecessors--especially regarding the professional version. Some of the
  124. recognized items for future addition are Directions, Progressions, and a
  125. planetary clock. We will try to develop this program in a way that both
  126. groups of potential users become happier and happier as time goes by,
  127. particularly in the Professional Version.

  129. Many people will realize that this program offers a great opportunity
  130. make money by selling horoscopes. It is not unusual to ask for $25.00 and
  131. the professional quality output from Astro-World should more than support
  132. this.

  134. Language Versions
  135. *****************
  136. The English and German Versions of Astro-World 2.2. and the French
  137. version 2.1 is currently available. As of 10/95, the Spanish and Italian
  138. version are nearly complete. Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Polish, Danish,
  139. Turkish, Slovenian, Croatian and Serbian versions are currently being
  140. translated.

  143. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  144. *******************
  145. The program was developed on an Compac 90MHz Pentium with 32MByte RAM,
  146. 17" VGA-screen, Postscript-Laser-printer and HP-DeskJet 560C under
  147. Windows 3.1 and later Windows 95. Astro-World 2.2 will run on every (DOS)
  148. Computer equipped with Windows 3.1 or Windows 95. To obtain a clear
  149. graphic image, a VGA display of at least 14 inches is required.
  150.  
  151. The use of a Laser-printer or HP-DeskJet 5__C will provide excellent
  152. Printout-quality. Often, the resulting quality of a matrix-printer is
  153. highly dependent on the abilities of the installed driver. Alas, we have
  154. experienced some problems with certain drivers printing the
  155. Horoscope-chart. In such cases, our advice would be to ensure you have
  156. the latest driver. Alternatively, try different fonts and sizes.

  159. INSTALLATION
  160. ************
  161. The complete Package is delivered on three 3-1/2" Diskettes, labeled
  162. "Setup- Disk", "Disk 2" and "Disk 3". If you downloaded the files, make
  163. sure that they are extracted and copied to three diskettes. Alternatively
  164. you can unpack the files to a temporary directory where the files reside
  165. in Sub- Directories named Disk1, Disk2 and Disk3. For Example: Unpack the
  166. files belonging to the Setup-Disk to C:\Temp\DISK1, the files for the
  167. second disk to C:\Temp\DISK2 etc.
  168.  
  169. Prior to installation: If you already have an "Astro" font installed from
  170. another Astrology package, you may need to uninstall that font, back it
  171. up and remove it from your font directory. (Note that the this font was
  172. the first bit-map and outline font for the PC, and has been in use since
  173. 1986.)

  175. Now, follow the Setup-Instructions in the file: AWINSTALL.TXT
  176.  
  177. The AstroWorld on-line help file (Astro.HLP), contains installation and
  178. troubleshooting details. Simply click on INFO, then Help, for
  179. information.

  183. Although permission has been granted for its use with Astro-world, the
  184. Astro font (tm) is provided as shareware and it is *not* to be exploited
  185. *without* permission of the author. To register this font, just send

  205. compendium of many questions asked by many users during the last two
  206. years. Thus, one might say that it contains a treasury of knowledge about

  208. a solution here is very high!

  408. ===== Installation =====================================
  409.  
  410. Astro-World Installation
  411.  
  412. To install Astro-World, run windows. It is recommended that no
  413. other programs are running while the installation takes place,
  414. which is just good practice.
  415.  
  416. Insert Setup disk #1 into the floppy drive and from the Program
  417. Manager, click File and then Run. Type A:\Setup (or B:\Setup if
  418. you using the B: drive). The setup will ask if you wish to
  419. install the software on C:\ASTRO22E (you can type in the drive and
  420. directory of your choice here). Click OK and insert disk #2
  421. when asked to do so.
  422.  
  423. After installing the program, it is absolutely necessary to
  424. integrate the Astro-Font into the list of installed fonts:
  425. It contains the symbols of the Zodiacal Signs and the Planets.
  426. If you forget to install this font, you'll find ordinary letters
  427. instead of Planets and Zodiacal Signs on your print-out!
  428.  
  429. To install the Astro font, proceed as follows: If you are still using
  430. Windows 3.1, Start the Control Panel out of the Windows Program Manager.
  431. As Windows 95 user you click on the Start button and choose "Settings"
  432. and "Control Panel"
  433.  
  434. 1 Choose the menu-item Fonts
  435.  
  436. 2 Click the button Add
  437.  
  438. 3 Choose the file, from the directory in which you have installed
  439. Astro World (the default is C:\ASTRO22E).
  440.  
  441. 4 If you have chosen the correct directory, the desired font:
  442. Astro (TrueType) appears in the upper box under List of fonts.
  443. Click on Select All and then OK.
  444.  
  445. 5 The font will be installed and displayed in the font window.
  446.  
  447. 6 The installation of Astro-Font is complete. Finally, click
  448. on Close.
  449.  
  450. That's it! You will find a significant amount of information in
  451. the Help file (click on Help from within Astro-World). Please
  452. note that all of the text and Help files are being processed to
  453. accommodate US-English and will be re-released for version 2.2.
  454.  
  455. Late notes: Old versions (before Mar 1, 1993) of SMARTDRV.SYS
  456. default to enable write-cache. This problem is not limited to
  457. AstroWorld. This can result in ASTRO.INI and database entries
  458. not being written to the disk properly and a loss of data if
  459. anything goes wrong. Recommendation: Update SMARTDRV.SYS, or
  460. disable the Write-cache with the option /X (SMARTDRV.SYS /X).
  461.  
  462.  
  463. Including additional Databases
  464.  
  465. In order to integrate additional databases you should proceed
  466. as follows:
  467. 1) Put the diskette into floppy-disk drive A:
  468. 2) Select the menu-item File, then, Include Additional Locations.
  469. 3) Select the database of locations <FILE.ASC> and confirm your
  470. selection with OK.
  471.  
  472. The procedure may take several minutes. In case you are familiar
  473. with DOS, there is a faster method:
  474.  
  475. - Copy the file from the diskette into a temporary directory on
  476.   your hard-disk-drive (or better still a RAM-drive if you have
  477.   set one up).
  478.  
  479. - Select the menu-item Include Additional Locations.
  480.  
  481. - Now the program will complain about there being no diskette in
  482.   drive A.
  483.  
  484. - Select Cancel. Now you will be asked for the file-name. Select
  485.   the path and filename on your hard-disk-drive.
  486.

  489. BBS-Distribution

  491. The program is also avilable as BBS-Version.

  493. Astro-World is not directly executable from CD-Rom as it makes use of
  494. read-writable databases.
  495. However Installation from a CD-ROM is quite simple. Just copy the disks
