The month of the Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca. One of the months most important festivals is that of EID UL ADHA (Festival of the Sacrifice). This is the second of Islams 'official' festivals. It coincides with the completion of the rites of the Hajj. Each household sacrifices a sheep or lamb. Only a third is kept, the rest distributed as alms or as gifts. This is in memory of how god spared Abraham (Ibrahim) from having to kill his son. Often, greeting cards are exchanged.
